Are there any exceptions to receiving Communion in the state of mortal sin?

Are there any exceptions to receiving Communion while in the state of mortal sin? A co-workers brother who is married outside the Church has been receiving Communion all along. He justifies this by stating that as long as you “dedicate” the Eucharist for someone else’s soul, it’s Okay. I’ve never heard of such a thing.
That isn’t right, is it?

Ask him where in the Catechism such behavior is justified. There is absolutely no instance when one may knowingly and deliberately receive the Body and Blood of the Lord while remaining in the filth of mortal sin!
