Are there any former Orthodox out there who are now RC?

I don’t know a single other soul in my situation. Is there a forum for converts to Catholicism? It would be VERY helpful to talk specifically to Orthodox converts. Some Orthodox are very angry with me and tell me my salvation is at risk.

I converted from Orthodox to Catholic. You seem to be drawn to Catholicism. I had Orthodox friends who warned me not to leave the Orthodox faith. I had long wanted to be Catholic and last year I became Catholic.

You don’t want to convert them because you want to be obedient to what the Catholic Church promised at Balamand, but at the same time you know they would be better off in the Catholic Church. That’s my dilemma and I don’t know how to handle it.

Joanna, I think it doesn’t mean that. We Catholics pray for reunion with the Orthodox Churches, but who knows how long will that take? Maybe ten years, maybe ten thousand years. If you as an individual want to attend catechism classes in the Catholic Church and if you decide to ask reception into the RCC because you believe its teachings and want to abide by them, it is my understanding that the Catholic Church has a duty to receive you. In my native town in Romania, many Romanian Orthodox Christians converted to the Catholic faith. Some of these people had ties with the Byzantine rite Catholic Church (Greek Catholic Church) of Romania, which was made illegal during the Communist years, and re-emerged after communism fell in 1989. However, many converts to the RCC come from EO families that had no relation to the RCC before.

I’ve got no intention of tying myself in such knots. I’m also sure my parish priest would not wish to tie me in such knots either, and if I asked would simply offer me catechism and, if I later decided to go ahead and become RC, then reception into the Roman Catholic Church.

It’s not “tying yourself in knots.” It’s a pretty standard procedure, it’s what’s necessary if you want to be canonically Latin Catholic. Honestly, in my opinion the Eastern Code of Canon Law is simpler and easier to satisfy than the Latin Code of Catholic Law. The only place this would significantly impact you would be when it comes to baptism of your children and marriages, as far as I can tell.

“the Church in which the fullness of the truth is taught”? Did you used to be a Mormon? I thought they were the ones who said they hold the fullness of the truth.

I’ve never been a Mormon. The “fullness of truth” phrase is standard wording in Catholic circles, both here and in books I’ve read.
