Are there any good parishes in the Bentonville AR area?

I just got a call from a possible employer in Bentonville, AR. He said that his offer is going to be better than the one we discussed when I visited a couple of weeks ago.

I checked out 2 churches there and they are so utterly disgusting. I know that the Catholics in the area are in an extreme minority. But I would hope that the parishes might be traditional because of the “red state” thing. They look like modern monstrosities.

Could anyone point me in the right direction? I know that there is a SSPX chapel in Springfield, MO which is about an hour and a half away, but I really don’t think I’ll go to it. Clearcreek Abbey is over 2 hours away and not practical to go to every Sunday.

Depends on your definition of “good.” It appears you already have passed judgment on two parishes in the area. If you plan to live and work in Northwest Arkansas, you may want to adjust your attitude towards your - my- Church. I Live in the Little Rock area but came from another parish/city in the Southwest. It has been an adjustment to be in a minority situation and adapting to different parishes, but you make the best of it because we’re there to serve and worship God. The Diocese of Little Rock, which covers the state, is a light in the state. Please, add your flame to it. www.dolr.org

No, my definition of “good” is a church that looks like a church without black ghoulish statues that look like something out of Tim Burton’s nightmares.

My definition of “good” is where the Sacrifice of the Mass is celebrated according to the rubrics and free from abuses.

There are places where I live where this can be accomplished, I am hoping that in Northwest Arkansas there are also places as well.

If you want to help me find a good parish and show me that there are good parishes I would appreciate the help.

this may sound like a strange but call convents and ask if they know a traditional priest who does a mass. sometimes a traditional priest is allowed to do the tridentine rite but not allowed to advertise because he will not technically have it in a typical “church” at a set time. my favorite priest does his in a chapel of a hospital or a convent. you may also want to write the bishop, and ask if he is aware of any in the area or nearby areas. if there isnt then at least he knows one more person is interested and may get him thinking of starting one. keep in mind you can now also go to sspx.

I am a member of the parish with the “black ghoulish statues” and while I agree completely with you about the statues, I doubt that the current pastor would have built the church the way it is. He inherited the building, as well as the debt. He seems to me to be a very holy man who is doing all he can in a very large parish to teach people about the faith.

The liturgy is quite modernist in style, which is a struggle for me, but my sense is that it is done from sincere ignorance, rather than from a spirit of dissent. I am not aware of any actual abuses that go on, and would be confident that the pastor would stop them if they did.

PLEASE consider that God may be bringing you to our parish for a reason. We need good solid Catholics to help with the new evangelization. I struggle with envy of family members who live in towns where they have wonderful traditional parishes, with wonderful faithful priests and strong orthodox bishops. But I believe that God must have placed me here because He has some use for me here, and I take great comfort in the fact that Our Lord comes to us in even the most ugly liturgies.
