No, the Orthodox don’t speak in tongues as the Pentacostal’s and such do. Scripture is specific on the two instances when it is appropriate.

1. Private prayer to God
2. Mass prayer where there is someone to interprete.

Anything else is not from God.

Protestants speak in tongues in private and in church with an interpretation. There is also an abuse of tongues in the protestant church much like how many traditional christians have abuses involving sacramentals such as the misuse and mis understanding of brown scapular, holy metals, buring icons of Joseph to sell a house, abuses with devotion to Mary, and all of the many false practices due to superstition that the churches do not support yet that are practiced.

It happens everywhere, it happened at Corinth, no reason to throw the baby out with the bath water

I’ve never been to, or heard of a service with tongues which had an interpreter when I was an evangelical protestant, but that is just my experience. We don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater, as the link posted by LDNCatholic stated it is accepted, it is just recognized as the least of the spiritual gifts.

I’m quite saddened by the Charismatic movement in the Catholic Church. I’m glad to know Orthodoxy has not gone down the same path.

I am with on this. One thing that always boggus about this is that the HS is always with the CC, yet some Catholics go to protestants for laying of the hands and begin to speak on this so called tongue. this is something worth to debate I would think. Protestants cannot do the laying of hands since they have no Apostolic succession.
