Same as the title, really. And if Eastern Catholics do have Missals, is there a website form where one could order one?

Thanks! 😃

In the Eparchy of Parma, we have just received new Divine Liturgy books. This is the new translation of the Divine Liturgy that was ok’ed by Rome eariler this year. From what I gather, all Byzantine Catholic Churches will have the same books in our Eparchy. (I could be wrong, but that was my understanding as it was explained to me.)

But to answer your question, I believe if you wrote to the Archeparchy of Pittsburgh, that they would let you know more about how to obtain a book.

My Ruthenian brother Aramis has a link to the entire Ruthenian Byzantine Catholic Pew Book (the one referred to by Edwin1961) in the signature line of all his posts… just look for one of his posts and you’ll have it.

Can I ask you what you want it for?

If you’re going to use it a means of prayer, you don’t want the new pew book.

If you’re using it as a means of prayer, you can get a copy of the Byzantine Book of Prayer. This is available at the Byzantine Seminary Press or the Icon and Book Store. I don’t have the links hand at present but will look for them…

I will limit myself to the Byzantine use.

It depends on what you mean by ā€œmissalā€.

If you mean ā€œa book that contains everything needed for the Eucharistic Liturgy, including readings and hymns, between two covers,ā€ the answer is ā€œnot reallyā€. The Byzantine Fathers of Lvov printed such an altar book, which was reprinted in Canada, but it is now out of print.

The books are traditionally arranged (as were the Roman books once upon a time) containing the material each order of ministry would need:
  1. Liturgikon or Euchologion–Vespers, Matins, Liturgy and certain other services with the prayers and litanies of the Priest and Deacon.
  2. Gospel Book.
  3. Epistle Book–this book also contains the proper Antiphons, Prokeimena, Allelua, and Communion verses for every day in the year–things needed by the Reader and Cantor.
  4. Horologion (Book of Hours), Menaion (Monthly Book–Proper of the Saints), Triodion (Three Odes–Lenten book), Pentecostarion (Pascha through Sunday After Pentecost)–You would get the Troparia and Kontakia after the Little Entrance from here.
For the Divine Office, you would add the Psalter.

Yes, quite a library is needed.

The Pittsburgh Divine Liturgy Book (which is also available for d/l on line somewhere) contains all the hymns (but not the readings) needed for days when the typical parish is likely to have a Divine Liturgy–Sundays and Feasts.

There is a book that is theoretically possible for Daily Liturgy published by the Ukrainians THE DIVINE LITURGY: An anthology for worship, which contains daily propers and the references to the readings.

Needless to say, even in Greek and Slavonic there are compendia with a little bit of everything, but not really everything of anything: Anthologion, Syekdimos, Synopsis, and such.

Thoroughly confused now?

Would you happen to please have an exact title of this book? Thanks.

It was simply entitled ā€œLITURGIKONā€. It contained the orders for Vespers and Matins in the back, but none of their propers.

I would sure love to find a single volume with the daily or at least Sunday readings. Nothing else need be included…
