I know that individual FSSP priests are under whichever bishop their apostolate is in the diocese of but are there FSSP bishops who have their own dioceses or can FSSP even become bishops? Just never heard of any.

Thanks!

I don’t believe they currently are any FSSP priests who have been ordained Bishop, but there is nothing to stop it.

Just like the Archbishop of Boston was a Capuchin, but is now a bishop (although he still lives by the Capuchin rule, once a bishop is ordained, he is no longer under the vows/rule of his order).

God Bless

Hard to believe after 20 years, isn’t it?
Not really. Since most FSSP priests prefer to only use the 1962 rites of the sacraments, being a bishop might not suit them, unless it was within some sort of personal prelature that only used the old rites…

God Bless

No there are not any, I asked this question of them myself and received an official response to it actually, a few weeks ago. 🙂

Let me get the exact reply from my email box:
My question is are there any bishops who are or have been members of the F.S.S.P.? Are there any priests who may be in the near future? Are some people members of the F.S.S.P. and other religious orders, is that possible?
REPLY:
Your inquiry was forwarded to us from the international headquarters in Switzerland.
The Fraternity does not have bishops, nor are there any plans for the Fraternity to have bishops in the future. A few priests who belong to religious orders work in association with the FSSP.

I hope this answers your questions.

It’s conceivable that the FSSP will eventually come under the jurisdiction of the SSPX Bishops if an International Apostolic Administration for traditionalists is created.

Otherwise, they depend on the approval of local Bishops.

Let me add that I would love that they should turn the entire FSSP into the FFSPB, that is, make the most of them bishops and replace the lot we have in so many places.

The FSSP should be the training ground, the field for the bishops of the future.

Sadly… no plans? Nothing is set in stone, I pray things CHANGE!

🙂

Unfortunately!

My bishop opted to train some priests in the Tridentine mass from our diocese. I wonder why he didn’t just invite the FSSP? Its taken months to train these priests. The FSSP is all around our state, just not in it…I wonder why?

The FSSP is great, don’t get me wrong. But, it is actually better for Traditionalism if a diocese implements the EF from within.

That way, it has a chance to take root within the whole diocese, not just be “ghettoized” into one FSSP parish.

God Bless

There aren’t that many FSSP priests either. They only have the capacity to train a limited number at any given time.
