Are there methods you use to remember scripture?
Or the chapter and verse?
 
A lot is meant to be fairly memorable for a hearing audience, so mainly focus on the big pictures.
Like exaggeration or repitition is helpful in the Scriptures.
Read it slowly and focus.
 
I can recall important scripture passages, but not necessarily chapter and verse. But I take some comfort in the fact that chapter and verse numbers are not part of scripture anyway, having been added much later.
 
Yes, I think I can safely say that I use a method that speeds things up for me when I need to find a reference quickly. I write things down in a notebook. (A real notebook, made of paper, not the other kind.)
 
There’s a book in the shop called “memorize the reasons”. I haven’t bought it yet, but I saw a sample page. I think they use a picture of St. Peter’s Basillica. It teaches you how to remember Peter’s primacy by pointing out certain characteristics (the walkway is the “rock”, for example) and uses cues such as these to help you remember the verses.

The protestants have us beat on this. Memorization of Scripture is seen as important, every Sunday school kid has a memory verse for the week.

They sing many songs that are Scripture and songs are such an easy way to memorize things (that is also the reason we need to be careful about the Theology in the songs we sing).

I know the books of the New Testament in order because I learned them in a song when I was a little girl. Same for so many Scripture passages.

For example, I know a childhood song that goes like this:

"Beloved, let us love one another
For love is of God
And everyone that loveth is born of God
And knoweth God
He that loveth not
Knoweth not God
For God is love

Beloved, let us love one another
First John four seven and eight."
 
Chapter and verse in recall of scriptural messages is akin to dates in recall of history.

The message of scripture doesn’t require precise reference to chapter and verse, just as the impact of historical events are not primarily dependent on the exact date of events.
 
Yes scripture memory can be helpful to add authority to the faith and belief
