I have been watching the Passion of Christ over and over again too many times. So I tried searching for other movies that are related to Jesus. However they are all almost the same as they too repeated the passion scene. Can anybody recommend any new titles?

Quo Vadis, The Robe, Barabbas and Risen are good biblical movies about events after the Passion.

Bells of St Mary’s and Going My Way are set in the 40s. A Nun’s Story and The Trouble with Angel’s are great.

There are lots of movies based on the lives of the Saints - Becket, A Man For All Seasons, the Miracle of Fatima, the Song of Bernadette are a few.

The Nativity Story is good - one of the few modern ones I can think of.

Thanks! Will try to watch them instead of American slasher movies from now onward.

I am not a big fan of war movie. Sorry. I naturally hated war movies even when I was a child.

LilyM gave you a good list. I particularly liked “Barabbas” and “Risen”.

“The Greatest Story Ever Told” and “Jesus of Nazareth” are two other movies that cover the life of Jesus, his whole life, not just the Passion though of course that comes in at the end.

Some more movies about early Christians (similar to Quo Vadis and The Robe):
The Sign of the Cross
The Silver Chalice
Ben Hur

Other Catholic movies set in the 20th century:
The Shoes of the Fisherman
The Scarlet and the Black
The Cardinal
I Confess

I’d throw in “For Greater Glory” about the Cristero War in Mexico, but you said you don’t like war movies.

‘Paul, Disciple of Christ’ is a recent movie. I haven’t watched it yet but @(name removed by moderator) recommended it. It is in my list to watch.

We showed it outside on a big blowup screen this past summer at our church. I was surprised at the number of people in the town just wandered over to watch. Many stayed for a bit and there was good conversation.

I wish there were Catholic movies made featuring contemporary life, in the US or other Western countries. I know the Evangelical movies are criticized for following a typical formula, but I watch them anyway.

They actually have people who live in a suburb, have kids in school, belong to a church, are torn between Christian values and modern pressures. Like many of us.

I recommend “Risen”. I loved it and have seen it several times. It always makes me think deeply about what the “non-believers” during Christ’s time on earth must have seen and heard about Him that changed them into believers.

Karol: a man who became Pope . It was free on youtube last time I looked I watched it very good, about St John Paul II.
The Staircase. Also on youtube (about St Joseph - sort of …actually some nuns and rumoured to be st Joseph)
Molokai : the story of Fr Damien (youtube)
The Gospel of St John (also youtube)
The Gospel of St Luke (youtube)
The Visual Bible the gospel of St Matthew (you tube)
Little Margaret of Castello (you tube)
The Fourth wise man (you tube)

Lilies of the Field. It isn’t related to Jesus, but it is a good film about a group of nuns trying to build a church and the drifter/handyman (Sidney Poitier) they convince to help him.

Paul, Apostle of Christ is the newest I can think of. An older one I like is Jesus of Nazareth. Silence also seems good, but I haven’t gotten very far in it yet.
