Are there other philosophy forums?

This philosophy forum is good, but some of the discussions tend to die out before they can really build a following. I’m interested in learning about other philosophy forums on the Web, whether Catholic or not, where practicing philosophers are more likely to be found.

Does anybody know of any such?

I’m particularly interested in a Forum where Thomas Aquinas is often discussed. I wonder if Catholic Answers would consider dedicating a section of its forum exclusively to discussions of Thomas Aquinas.

It’s difficult to believe such a forum does not exist somewhere.

Type “philosophy forums” into Google and a bunch will come up.

Hey C., are you a practicing Philosopher :)?

Try Trent Horn but I think you will find the kind of forum you are looking for doesn’t exist for us amatures. I imagine one has to prove one’s bona fides in order to be admited.

strangenotions.com/ ( Trent’s philosophy forum ).

Sorry I meant Brandon Vogt.

I should have added that the problem with this forum is that anyone can pop in with any wild idea whatever. Another problem is that people continue to argue ad finitum, either oblivious to a solid argument or stubbornly hanging on to their preconceived notions. Then there are those who know little or nothing about philosophy and insist that they are using terms correctly when they are not - thus they will never understand what the argument is all about or how the conclusion was reached, but will still insist it is wrong 🤷. Then there are the " bomb throwers " who don’t care about anything but throwing rocks in the road.

Sort of. amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=carl%20sundell

The top three are by me. I’ve done several quasi-philosophical articles for the New Oxford Review, but I don’t count myself a professional philosopher. More of a serious dabbler. 😉

I agree that it’s difficult to find forums in philosophy that can be moderated and fine-tuned to the extent that everybody will respect what philosophy is about, and will respect each other as well.

Ed Feser’s blog combox is not exactly a forum–but you probably could not find a better concentration of competent laymen Thomists on the internet. (Since it’s a blog, there won’t be a huge variety of discussions at a given time, however.)

There are some other Thomist blogs as well.

As for forums, I’m not really sure, if a quick google search doesn’t reveal anything. I imagine on a non-Catholic philosophy forum (of which I’m sure there are several), people would not discuss Aquinas too much, and if you were to reference him, you would have to be prepared to defend yourself.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I think you are right. I’m not really interested in a forum where Aquinas is hardly known. It would be an act of heroic patience and charity to participate. I’m a little short of heroic. 😉
