I have heard that masses celebrated by bishops inthe ordinary form are called pontifical masses. Is this true?

Thank you.

Yes, that is true. Pontifical Masses are in the Novus Ordo and the Traditional Latin Mass.

Pontifical Mass means the Mass is celebrated by someone using pontificalia, which includes the Pope, Cardinals, Bishops, and certain other prelates, including Abbots. This can occur in the Ordinary or Extraordinary Form.
