My religion teacher told our class that there are two reasons that abortion is permitted in the Catholic Church. However I cannot seem to find these reasons again, or anything to support this. Are there reasons that the Church permits abortion, ie if the woman or child will die from birth, or any other reason. Thank you very much.

Vetteman,

Since I do not know which two things your teacher thinks justify abortion, I’ve included some of the more common situations people ask about. These links should explain the moral choices Catholics have when faced with rape, incest, infant deformity, ectopic pregnancy, and threats to the mother’s life. If you have any further questions or concerns that are not answered by these links, please contact Catholic Answers directly.
