Thanks for the reply, but I wasn’t talking about when the statues are part of the decoration. They aren’t permanently there, but they are brought out on special occassions and (if I’m not mistaken) in the sanctuary, not near it – they are on the same platform and everything.
Something like in a canonisation Mass where the saints’ relics are places near the altar on the right when facing the congregation, or during an Easter Mass with the Pope where there is a big tryptich of the Risen Christ on the left of the altar.
So in those cases, are there rules as to which side they can be placed, and are there rules about when? Must they only be on Feast Days, or can they be brought out whenever there is good reason?
