Are there still Apostles?

Perhaps you dont;’ understand what the word “succession” means? It means exactly what you have stated here. Matthias became one of the 12. He replaced Judas, whose office was vacated.

The passage proves that the Apostles understood that there were to be 12 of them, and that it was approproiate, when an office was vacated, for them to fill it.

Are there other 11 apostles? Was only Peter succession left and if so why would they have Matthias replace Judas?

There are no more Apostles on Earth, only Bishops, who as you have said came via succession from the Apostles.

The Church is ‘Apostolic’ after all. Led by Bishops, who are the successors of the original Apostles. As the Church grew, and people from all corners of the world became part of it, there needed to be more than 12. Certainly 12 men could not look after the whole Church universal. Our Holy Father may be one man over the whole Church, but that’s why he has Bishops underneath him, and those Bishops have priests.

Note that Saint Peter set the requirement that Judas successor must be one who was with them from the beginning; later successors could not be expected to meet that criteria. I suggest that Saint Peter intended to preserve the Twelve through Pentecost, the founding of the Church. Judas was never ordained as an original leader of the Church. While Saint Matthias took Judas’s place, he was a charter leader of the Church. These leaders then had successors who who carried on their work, but lacked some of the charisms of the original 12.
