Are these liturgical abuses? Should I stop going to this church?

I suffer from scrupulosity so sometimes my judgment is impaired regarding these matters. I have been attending a new parish for the past several months now. Tonight I attended the Holy Thursday Mass and I was disturbed because of the following:

Monsignor began the Gospel reading but then a woman took over reading the middle of the Gospel while Monsignor washed the feet of men, a boy, and women. Monsignor then finished reading the Gospel.

After the Homily the congregation read from a booklet asking Monsignor if he renews his priestly commitment.

Bringing up the gifts consisted of a procession of several people stopping three different times to lift the gifts in the air and turn.

The bread used during the Consecration was soft brown bread. (And I could see bread crumbs in the aisle.)

No one knelt during the procession of the Blessed Sacrament to the Altar of Repose. (And after Mass there was loud talking, laughing, yelling.)

Am I correct in believing that these were liturgical abuses and that I should stop attending Mass at this parish?

I would consider it.

Mass tonight at my parish and for the rest of the Triduum will be in the Extraordinary Forum, but the Ordinary Forum is also very reverent with Mass:

   *]Celebrated Ad Orientum
   *]Use of Chant (90% of the time, priest dependent)
   *]Many parts in Latin (priest dependent)
   *]Communion on the Tongue using the Altar Rail
   *]Organ Music (with an occasional Orchestral Mass using classical music and composers like Mozart, Beethoven)

Sure sounds like activism to me.

So sorry you had to indure these things on such a Holy day at this.

The “bread” certainly sounds suspect. The “liturgical dance” is uncalled for and, IMHO, mocks the reverence of the liturgy.

The woman reading any part of the gospel is, of course, forbidden in the context of the Mass… no exception, there was a priest present,

Feet washing has been discussed often. The procedure you witnessed destroyed the purpose of this humility performed by the priest, in persona Christi. No children, no women.

As for the vows,… nice touch to remember that this night also reminds us of the institution of the priesthood… but this is an additive that is new to me.

Leave the parish… probably not. Talk to the pastor… try it, but be prepared to be "chastised’ for your lack of understanding. I can only surmise that many others in the parish must condone this stuff and were willing to participate and support these

I thought this was done at the Chrism Mass in front of the Bishop???
