Are these liturgical abuses?

Outside of Mass, I have no problems with secular but tasteful displays. But flags are semi-permanent fixtures in the church. It would be like hanging a portrait of the president. Really out of place.

I doubt that during the time of World War II, when so many family members went off to war, that the flag seemed out of place. But I guess the time has come in many places to take the flags out, like our former pastor did several years ago, because many people like myself never understood why they are there.
