I believe I have found the reference to the quote about the synagogue.

Here is the link to his Against the Jews, Homily I. The quote can be found in part 2, chapter 1. The homily also says that the Jews worship demons and sacrifice their children to them.

Please note I am not arguing for or against any position here. I have no dog in this fight. I am merely trying to lend a hand in finding actual quotes so that you all can discuss the matter further.

I dont really see how these sorts of vague, unsourced, uncorroborated, paraphrased, comments are a challenge to anything particular. Most of them are so general and open to interpretation so wide that you could drive a bus through them.

What Holly was saying is if these types of comments hurts one’s faith, then they should be steered clear of. It depends on the strength of one’s faith, for some their faith is not well informed or formed and in their case, they should avoid those websites. Someday when they are stronger then it may be different.

Yeah I didn’t even pay attention first time I looked at this thread. Most of what the OP posted aren’t even quotes. The are just assertions about what various people supposedly said. Most of it isn’t even particularly anti-semitic. And as I pointed out at least with the quote from Nicea it’s just completely wrong. When someone misrepresents something that badly I tend not to trust much coming from them.

Exactly. These so called quotes are only sentences taken out of context to mislead people. The nice a quote aboves mentioned is another example.

I am very familiar with st Augustine and that so call quote is also heavily taken out of context. First of all if you are not strong in your faith st aguatine is going to be very difficult o understand. In order to understand st aguatine you need to read all his work and have a depth comprehension of philosophy which most people lack. That is why st Augustine is the mos misinterpreted saint in history. Sincerely no one with full knowledge of the doctrine should be reading st Augustine.

In order to understand st Augustine you need to understand the concept of contra ludaeos which is a religious dispute of early fathers against other religions. Judaism here is viewed as another religion and st Augustine from the scripture is basically analyzing the flaws in the practice of the religion. St Agustin’s Jewish witnesses doctrine is very complicated and hard to read with a 20 century mind but stating that he was anti semitic is like stating that Isaiah was also anti semitic for calling out on Jews. St Agustin is just making a call out from a seiptural point of view of religious flaws and mistakes dome by a group of people. Nothing to do with actual hatred towards Jews.

What is it you are trying find out? Do you think if these individuals said something incorrect that it somehow invalidates the Church or Church teaching? Just trying to understand what you hope to gain by running this down? I’m not sure what you are driving at? What do you think the above proves? Can you clarify?

The Spurious Epistles (epistle to the philippians ch 14)
