Are these sins of grave matter?

Are the following sins, sins of grave matter as this site implies: %between%

1. Living primarily for the world.
   (I try to do everything I do for God, and strive to serve him and perservere away from sin, but most of the things I do are still “worldly”. Does “primarily” mean over 50%?)
2. Immodesty in dress.
   a. Should cover the knees.
   b. Should cover the elbows.
   (Would this apply to boys?)
3. Wasting time.
   a. Doing nothing.
   b. Watching too much TV.
   c. Neglecting one’s duty.
   (Does this make sleeping in or lounging around and relaxing mortal sin?)
4. Selfishness or lack of charity.
   (At what point would this become a mortal sin? Would it be only to an extreme measure?)

Number three seems the most venial to me.

I have no idea what you mean here. Unless you live in a monestary, most of us live and function in the world and are subject to many worldly demands be they work, family, community, etc.

not grave matter to show knees or elbows. Imodesty in dress is dressing in a way that leads others to sin. No one is turned on by knees and elbows anymore.

rest is not sinful, it’s necessary. TV is neutral but somethings you watch might be problematic. Neglecting one’s duty, especially as it applies to one’s vocation (spouse, parent, clergy) could be grave.

   (At what point would this become a mortal sin? Would it be only to an extreme measure?)

I don’t think it’s a point, but rather a continuum. Some people are more tuned in to the suffering of others but most of us have to continually work at it.

Number three seems the most venial to me.

   Well guys can dress “immodestly”. Think jeans so tight you can tell someone’s religion, lol.

   No, of course not. Everyone needs to rest and relax.

   At what point? Hmmm that’s a good question. I would say for selfishness; when someone chooses to do something over and over again even if it hurts someone. And for lack of charity; I think when people choose not to give A GOOD AMOUNT when they can. No one needs to give 75% of their income to charity; but you do need to give AS MUCH AS YOU CAN IMO.

Number three seems the most venial to me.

I would say that the answer corki gave is more than sufficient however if you suffer from scrupulosity I can see the problem. One must live their life according to their state in life and not get bogged down with such extravagant pharisitical or morally legalistic concerns.

I’ve read through your other threads and posts and it is clear that you are very scrupulous. It reminds me of another poster who started loads of threads asking if every little thing was a sin. If you let your scrupulosity dominate your life you will have a miserable time.

The advice is to talk to your priest about your scrupulosity and follow what he tells you to do.
