hi …
please could someone advise me?
i have 2 children, 1 of them i am adopting, she was already baptised c/e when i had her, could i get her baptised catholic when the adoption is finished??
my own child is catholic, but they attend a non-catholic school:( although i must stress it is a very good school!! )
how do i go about sorting their holy communion out?
thanks
god bless xx

This is something you’ll want to speak to your priest about.

Normally, baptism does not need to be repeated as long as it was a valid Christian baptism… again speak to your priest on that…
And most parishes offer Sacramental preparation for children who do not attend Catholic schools… again, talk to your priest.

Good luck! 🙂

thank you for that…
i have spoken to a few people and as far as i am aware you are only allowed to be baptised once
but thanks again for your advice

god bless x:)

Check over on Liturgy and Sacraments. One of the deacons should be able to supply you with information for the adopted one. If your adopted child is under 7, she could probably “be supplied with the ceremonies” that go with Catholic baptism (the annointings, the white garment, candle, etc.). If she is over 7 it’s a whole 'nother kettle of fish, as far as I know.

My adopted son was already baptized so I’ve been down that path before. The first question is do you have documentation of the baptism? If not, then your adopted child may need to be conditionally baptized. My understanding that this is similar to baptism, but they say a few different words. Now if you have documentation and the child has been baptized Roman Catholic, everything should be in order and you may want to discuss with your priest the 'supplied with ceremony." If she has been baptized in another faith that isn’t in communion with Rome, she will need to make a Profession of Faith prior to her 1st Reconcilliation and 1st Communion. My son just did his Profession of Faith. It is basically a sentence that he said that indicates that he believes the things that are taught by the Church. It was a simple ceremony we had with his class after Mass one day. He was adopted at around 2 and the Profession of Faith was done now that he is 7. The first thing you should do is talk to your priest. It really depends on what kind of documentation you have. With our 1st adopted son, we had the complete baptismal certificate. With our 2nd, we were just told he was baptized with out any documentation. So he will need to be baptized conditionally. Hope that helps

oh thank you mom 2 boyz…
that helps so so much that helped…
she was christened church of england, i dont have any documentation… but i will certainly check it out
thanks again x:)

speak to your pastor

try to get the baptismal record of your adoptive child, or at least a statement from someone in authority who knows the whole story, of the date and place of baptism. No she would not be re-baptized. If she came to you and you had no certain knowledge and could not get it, she would be conditionally baptized.

also it depends on her age. Your pastor will tell you how children are prepared for first communion in your diocese, or he will refer you to the person in charge of children’s programs. Here all your children would probably attend religious education classes all throughout the school years, and prepare for first communion and confirmation with their peers at the age set by your bishop.

thanks very much for all the advice, i will certainly check it out
