If a married person has sex with an unmarried person, are they both committing adultery or is it only the married person committing it?
They are both violating the Sixth Commandment. If a married person has sex with an unmarried person, are they both committing adultery or is it only the married person committing it?
If you are referring to the Sixth Commandment, you are correct that it refers to **all **sins against **chastity **and marriage:I was taught that “adultery” is meant more broadly than just sex involving a person married to someone else, that in the Ten Commandments it refers to “fornication”, sex outside of marriage.
The Church’s definition of adultery has not changed. However, look at the post from Cattitude quoting the Catholic Encyclopedia. When did the Church’s definition change?
Uh no, I had a female friend who was trying to get another man in the sack (not me) and when I told her he was a Christian who was concerned about committing adultery.I gotta ask, did a Seinfeld episode make you ask this?
I saw an epidoe where George sleeps with a married woman. (She wanted to get back at her husband for something, I don’t recall) and she explained to George that only she comitted adultery.
Just wondering, cuz that made me almost post this question when I saw the episode![]()
Both, unless the unmarried person is unaware of the marriage. However, the only difference is the number of people directly hurt by the act. It is a mortal sin either way.If a married person has sex with an unmarried person, are they both committing adultery or is it only the married person committing it?
According to the Bible, they are both committing adultery. The unmarried person is committing adultery against their future spouse. If a married person has sex with an unmarried person, are they both committing adultery or is it only the married person committing it?
Absolutely, and to expand on that… If ANYONE is having sex outside of marriage, that too is considered adultery, whether they’re single, married, or whatever. Any sexual sin falls under the 6th Commandment, “Thou shall not commit adultery”. This includes sex with a married person; sex while you’re not married; masturbation; pornography; impure thoughts, etc. It is all adultery. If a married person has sex with an unmarried person, are they both committing adultery or is it only the married person committing it?
