I recently received a blue scapular from the Marians of the Immaculate Conception, and the cord/string is a bit uncomfortable and very long. I was thinking of changing it to a different one, but I feel like this may not be allowed or that I shouldn’t. Does anyone have any insights into this?

The cords or string of any given scapular is not the scapular. The scapular is the badge which is worn on the front or back. The blessing is attached to the scapular part. There would be no reason not to change the string if you want.

A follow up question - can you attach more than one scapular to a string?

There is no reason why you couldn’t. Maybe it might be a bit uncomfortable if too many were on the strings, but other than that, it would be fine. The Miraculous medal, the medal of St. Benedict, and any other medal could also be attached on the cord as well.

All sacramental blessings of any scapular is not on the item - scapular - it is on the person. If you need to change the cords it would not matter as long as you were properly invested.

Another point…I welcome the uncomfortable part…it reminds me of the reason I wear my scapular. I have worn on for 24/7 for 20+ years!

I first thought you wanted to change chords from “C major” to “D minor”🤷
