Are we living in trances?

I know you are but what am I…
Sorry for this post… point is that I don’t want to insult anyone but this thread seems kind of ridiculous because it’s questioning… everything… with no possible proof or adequate answer since we experience life through our senses and it asks if we are living in a trance? (So we can’t trust our senses, I presume, I guess you need to define trance).

I guess my best answer is… I don’t think so but what if we are… so what? What’s the point? What’s the difference if it is? It’s all relative, right. Unless you’re living in a trance and the rest of us aren’t, or vice versa. (Just kidding… again.) My point is that it is a unanswerable question and seems rather pointless. What is time? What is reality? I have faith (which requires doubt) that when I walk and see ground beneath my feet that the next time my foot hits the ground it will still be there. Why do I believe this? Because my experience tells me that unless there is an earhtquake or I get jarred that it is true. It could all be an elaborate scheme (all the world’s a stage) but that get’s to my poiint… so what. You don’t know, I don’t know. You can’t know (unless you receive some revelation (approved by the Church of course).

These are my observations in having spent so many years studying psychology, along with many hours of contemplation. Don’t believe them if you don’t wish, but let me present my honest thoughts and believes here on CAF. What’s so hard to believe when I say that sexual fantasy and preference is based on trance? Of course it is so! Of course our world is based on make-believe and derived by trance states!

umm, no and no it is not. Do you know what delusional means?

The bolded is why I am skeptical of your position. That is 100% your opinion, and you state it as fact!

That’s basically what CAF is: A sharing of ideas and beliefs. Take it for what it’s worth, but I’ve had a lot of training and self-experience in these areas and felt like knowing what others think.

It’s not just my opinion. Again, the link in my OP points towards this conclusion also.

What kind of training and self experience? I’m curious.

I have a PhD in research psychology and have paid a lot of attention to peoples’ sexual experiences. Homosexuality is something one is ‘infected’ with, not born with.

Oh, I agree with that, but that does not mean that we are living in trances. Besides, what purpose would that hold, and if it were true, what purpose is there in you discovering it? It’s not like it decreases your culpability.

This world is anything but what ‘scientists’ say it is. It contains underlying truths that do not get espoused through ‘science.’ We’ve been duped!

I tend to think that trance-like states are erected during sleep!

Don’t be a proud simpleton.
Hah. The reason I am being facetious is because what you are saying is… to tell the truth, ridiculous.

I’ve seen a lot of your posts on the forums, Robert, and some have been interesting, others strange, and yet others just weird… but this tops it.

“There’s none so blind as those who will not see.”

I used to feel the same way about some of my ‘weird’ professors, but now I hold them in high esteem.

Quote the CCC where it says that we are living in trances. I’ll believe you then.

Well, Robert, as Reagan would say, “there you go again.” Infected, even in quotations, is not, I think, the best choice of words. What do you mean: infected with a disease by Satan (based on one of your other threads)? If so, would that mean people who are infected are not responsible for their behavior?

Yes, I believe we are ‘infected,’ but the end choice is whether or not we give into our temptations. Everybody has temptations of one sort or another that we must constantly fight against. We are accountable for all the temptations that we choose to commit.

I think you may be lacking in knowledge in advanced classical conditioning. It’s not old fashioned, but can be used to explain a multitude of mental disorders. They were the most ‘sexy’ graduate courses I ever took. The human condition imposes a multitude of conditioned reflexes (trance-states that result in temptation).

I teach Experimental Psychology of Learning, so I’m interested in this.

I took you as someone deeply into psychodynamics.

One of Pavlov’s books, explaining mental illnesses using conditioned reflexes, was banned in Western Society.

Combining psychoanalysis with classical conditioning makes for some ‘sexy’ insights!
