Are we psychologically prepared for first contact?

And that makes me confused as to if we DID encounter the extraterrestrial, how could we know for sure in the metaphysical sense what they truly, truly, are.

I’m all question marks.

The presumption that they are demons in disguise could lead to unfair discrimination and conflict. That’s another thing to consider.

That is also completely true.

Consider that we are meeting another presumable intelligent life form, one with which we have never had contact with before (at least, as a mass society; excluding various accounts of abduction and interference). Whenever we encounter the “real” we become frightened and ossified, in a way, with the contemplation of truth.

Encountering another facet of God’s creation is another revelation of the truth of “reality” as is. So, to answer the question at had, really, I’m not quite sure as to whether we’d be psychologically read to handle first contact. Whether they would be demons in disguise or not, really could be cured with a space of holy water or the sight of a holy object.

It would really depend on what our new friends said, and believed. Example, if they claimed to be our creators, like many people already believe, that would definitely start a HUGE problem, with all religious denominations. This scenario would be very very bad, right or wrong would have no meaning anymore, I dread the thought of that happening, but I have a sneaky feeling that is exactly what we are being ‘primed’ for.

That would be the perfect excuse needed to outlaw religion, they will say continuing to worship our old gods is blasphemous and offends our new gods, it will not be tolerated anymore.

A beloved friend of mine once created a fictional alien race that were Christians. The story was that they intercepted a transmission of the bible and assumed it to be fiction, until they found out that a lot of the places mentioned were real when they discovered earth and all collectively converted. They then decided not to make contact on account of the violence that earth exhibited. I like to think that the aliens would’ve studied us enough to be familiar with the tenets of our religions.

Abundance of resources, sure, but mebbe they just like exerting power over others?

True, but the most intelligent of us would ask who created the aliens that created us. No matter how big the lie, you can’t remove God from the equation even if “religion” falls .

I wouldn’t worry too much about extraterrestial life, as humanity is more than capable of destroying itself.
