Are we slaves inside these bodies?

To what degree are we slaves, living inside these wretched bodies? How would we know if somebody planted us here for a selfish purpose? I said it before, but I believe we are ‘meatbots’ (biological robots). And, we are being rescued by God! Imagine that if you will!

These are a part of my deepest beliefs. I really believe in another world that guides and controls our world. From where does technology come? How else could our world grow to over seven billion people without it crashing? Our innate wit is simply too puny to account for all the high tech advances that you see in this world. Heck, please tell me if you have the innate wit to figure out how to mass produce simple boxes of toothpicks. Let me say that none of us have the innate wit to figure out the production process, especially the designing and building of the machines necessary to produce toothpicks? None of us have the innate wit to accomplish this. Now consider how our technology and world advanced so drastically over the past 150 years. Consider having to build the machinery and tooling necessary to produce computer chips. Such engineering feats, again, is far, far beyond our puny innate wit. My suggestion to you is to be humble and listen to this old fool. Go ahead, and try to figure out how to mass produce toothpicks with your puny innate wit!

The way we got our technology is that over many centuries accumulated knowledge from many different people was put to use. I know it seems like a lot but it doesn’t require another world influencing ours. That sounds too new age for me.

But somebody had to come up with the idea, and implement it. How long do you think it took that person? Some knowledge is accumulated through time, but the machines to manufacture toothpicks are unique, and would needed to have been created in a very short time span. Now take a close look around you and see all the unique technology that is required to manufacture everything over very short time span. Surely these people would need to be plentiful and somebody should be able to point to them out and shake their hands.

I spent a long time at UCLA working on my PhD, and I never met anyone who would have this innate wit. All I ever found was people who could read and write very well. Again, see all the unique items in your house and ask how all of it could have come about over the past 150 years or so.

There will be another ‘adventure’ for our souls after the World to Come! Such a view is espoused by Hasidic Jews who contend that just our souls, not our glorified bodies, will be gathered to Gan Eden for the righteous.

You think we should have gone much further? Like, how much further? Can you predict what the world will look like in the future (like 150 years from now)? Why wouldn’t you at least give God the credit? Is it because the mass media doesn’t?

Robert, having read your interesting posts over time, it seems to me your religious beliefs are very much influenced by Hasidic Judaism and consist of one part Hasidism, a second part Catholicism, and a third part your own invention. I’m not being critical of this; you can believe whatever you wish, but is it correct you are not fully in accord with the teachings of Catholicism or Christianity in general?

necessity is the mother of invention… so is greed. If people are looking for a means to get food out of their teeth someone would come up with a tool that does that. They would spend a lot of time and effort using existing tools to make a toothpick that other people would pay good money for.

Perhaps. However, where artificial technology weakens natural immunity and bolsters dependency that would seem a cause for concern, no? Similar to the way monoculture in agriculture opens the possibility for devastation because vulnerability to certain threats has become universal within the “culture” of the plant community. The strategy for bolstering security against the threats is to continue to create new means of artificial protection as the threats evolve. Monoculture requires artificial support or it would quickly collapse left to itself. Modern western culture is a kind of monoculture that relies heavily on artificial means to bolster it against threats. Abortion, euthanasia and even same sex marriage would seem to be artificial means of culling back overgrowth, but are signs that we are in trouble because the entire strategy of materialism and economic growth dooms itself by its own success.
