Are we supposed to hold hands during the Our Father?

A while back I believe I read something in one of Karl’s newsletters about holding hands while saying the Our Father during mass. As I remember, Karl discouraged the practice. I converted to Roman Catholicism in 1987 and remember seeing people at mass doing this back then. My family and I have always said the Our Father in this fashion. I always thought that this was something the Church encouraged. Was I mistaken? Is this something that was cooked up by liberals within the Church that has no basis in fact?
