I think we’re finally thinking as one body now…we can work together from within the church to make a difference in the lives of the victims, how we deal with abusers, and in preventing it from happening again in the church.
I personally have nothing to gain from revealing myself and telling my story; in fact, the opposite is true – I have a lot to lose. I have rebuilt my life from that moment. I am a mother, a wife, an educated woman, and soon to be a teacher and Dominican. I would be sacrificing myself and my image for the better good of His church. Just as Jesus was shunned for speaking words of truth, so will I by people – His people.
No one likes hearing about the mistakes they have made or where they need to make changes. It’s necessary to listen though and instead of becoming defensive (as I am not attacking the church), take my words to heart and grow from them. Make changes for the better; make changes that will lead us closer to God, doing His work, not his adversary.
Everything must be brought to light, for in darkness we cannot see to help our brothers and sisters of the church (victims and perpetrators). All are lost sheep and need to be returned to the flock.
This has been a heavy cross that I have had to carry up to this point…but here I am, sharing the weight of it with you.
Remember that Jesus didn’t hide behind the cross he was given, he was placed in front of it. Likewise, I am here in front of my cross…take me and let us help those who have been given the same fate – through my unselfish sacrifice, we can help them come back to the church.
