Are we to say 5 or 15 decades of the rosary daily?

In order to be worthy of the 15 promises for those who pray the rosary, do we pray 5 or 15 decades of the rosary daily?

I pray two sets of Mysteries every day, with very few exceptions. Five Joyful and five Sorrowful one day, five Glorious and five Luminous the next, and so on. I know for a fact, the five Luminous Mysteries are also valid, and quite important. I learned this by spiritual experience.
 
The 15 Promises only state that we pray the rosary with devotion.
It’s laudable to lead others in the prayers.
 
I just pray the Divine Mercy chaplet most of the time. Remember that the Rosary is optional, but the benefits of praying the Rosary are huge. If you pray the Rosary daily, consider joining a rosary confraternity. That way you have people all over the world including you in their intentions, and, you get indulgences.
 
Is this just another thread where john asks the question then vanishes like the one about obeying his parents? Sorry, gotta ask…
 
As many as possible but do know the 5 decade rosary was created to be only a child’s rosary because they couldn’t do all decades

Well, that may have been a recommendation from him, but it’s not how the 5 decade came to be.
Catholic school children pray 15 decades all the time. :rolleyes:
Children are quite capable.
Any rosary is pleasing to the Lord and His Blessed Mother.
5, 15, or 20 decades.
 
According to the Dominican order english province rosary confraternity website, english.op.org/about-us/the-dominican-family/rosary-confraternity.htm, the 15 decades are required once a week, either all on the same day or spread out at 5 a day with the luminous mysteries being optional.

As for the question of the 5 decades rosary being for children, I understand that was the case at first but the 5 decade rosary was accepted later as the standard for everyone. Certainly every single person, clergy or laity, I have spoken to accepts the 5 decade as standard, instead of the 15 or 20.
While it is good to pray all the mysteries each day it is not, as far as I know, required unless you are a member of a religious order which says otherwise.

Yes, you are correct that there is another reason how 5 decades came to be. BTW, it is good that school children there can pray the 15 decades. Most children here even find it difficult praying the 5 decades.

I pray the 7 Joyful mysteries of the Franciscan Crown Rosary!
 
The rosary is a private devotion. It is a very common private devotion, but a private devotion all the same. As such, there is no specific requirement that we must pray certain mysteries on certain days, though, it is traditional that the Joyful Mysteries are prayed Mondays and Saturdays (it was Mondays and Thursdays, but St. JPII moved them to Saturdays due to (a) adding the Luminous Mysteries and (b) Saturday being dedicated to Mary - as the Joyful Mysteries focus more on Mary than the other 3 sets of mysteries), the Luminous Mysteries on Thursdays, the Sorrowful Mysteries on Tuesdays and Fridays, and the Glorious Mysteries on Wednesdays and Sundays.

However, various adaptations to this exist. To many, it is a pious custom to only pray the Sorrowful Mysteries during Lent. With this, one could decide to only pray the Glorious Mysteries during Eastertide and only pray the Joyful Mysteries during Advent & Christmas. Typically, if a rosary is requested in addition to the required funeral vigil prayers, the Glorious Mysteries will be prayed, regardless of the day or time of year.

The most important thing to do, though, is to pray. If you wish to pray the rosary as a private devotion, do so in a way that is productive to your own prayer life.
 
I don’t think it matters whether you pray five or fifteen decades of the Rosary since the promises don’t specify. Regardless it is a very good thing to pray the Rosary every day. It is a very powerful prayer and is highly recommended by numerous saints.

If you buy “a rosary”, it only has 5 decades on it. Why would different mysteries (5 decades each) be assigned to different days if a daily rosary wasn’t meant to be only 5 decades. Therefore, I conclude a daily rosary is 5 decades and a full rosary is 15. The 15 promises only asks us to say the rosary devoutly reflecting on the mysteries and do not specify if it’s a daily rosary or a full rosary.
