Yeah, when I was still thinking Iād be married in an actual white wedding gown, the place where I was going to order was from an LDS online store. The Mormons have really beautiful, modest white gowns and theyāre somewhat reasonably priced. That is a beautiful gown, and I wish more dresses like that were available for brides to buy. As to why only the royal brides seem to have gowns like this, here are a few of my hypotheses (only my opinions, mind you.):
Now for the regular gals, the ones who canāt afford a complete, custom-made bridal gown, they have to get tough. If they want a modest dress, they should insist on buying only such a dress ā no cleavage down to the pupik (thatās ābelly buttonā), no ātoplessā dresses, and no ātoplessā dresses with a little frou-frou sewn on to make it look a tiny bit more covered up. The only way the bridal stores will carry modest gowns is if brides insist on them and threaten to walk out if they canāt find what they want. Itās scandalous that the only shops selling modest bridal attire seem to be those catering to LDS brides (if LDS brides can be modestly attired for temple weddings, why canāt Catholic brides be modestly attired for church weddings?)
- The royal brides have the money to have any style of dress they want custom-made for them. They arenāt limited to the bridal stores which seem to have only one kind of dress anymore ā revealing.
- Perhaps the royal brides have a sense of propriety missing in far too many other brides (or at least, must act as if they do).
- The royal brides probably donāt want their wedding pictures appearing in the tabloid press under a headline about how cheap and vulgar they looked for their wedding.
- Maybe the royal brides feel that āhot sexy mamaā isnāt the correct look to be portraying on their wedding day.
- The priests in their churches may be extra strict about standards of attire.
What you said about the royal brides is pretty much true. In fact the white, lacy ātraditionalā wedding gowns that we see today originated with royalty (Queen Victoria I think) and for a long time the color white was associated only with royal brides. Regular brides like us would have worn a dress in any other color except for black (reserved for mourning) and red (considered āracyā).
