Are works required for Gods mercy?

The problem is that it can be hard to decide when there will be more harm than good. Also, is it alright to wait to tel someone the truth?

God’s mercy is every faithful and enduring. In faith we respond with our whole selves. That includes our actions.
It’s a relationship.

From reading St Faustinas book she saved a lot of souls from the devil by prayer obediance and sacrifice and demons confessed this and Jesus was speaking to her of his mercy
We should pray constantly. To God in loving worship, for others out of love. We are not wielding or affecting the power of God by praying for others. We are cooperating in the work of love.

That’s Clear so I have a feeling that mercy is measured by the scales !

John121, there’s a message in this article about Pope Francis in Bulgaria that should help you. Notice how the Apostles felt after they betrayed Jesus. And what does Jesus do?

If you’re having this much trouble deciding whether to tell people you lied or not, just tell them and then you don’t have to worry about it any more.

I’m just not sure how much works of mercy I must do to cover me.

I suffer from false memories so I get confused about reality a example is that I have apologized to someone or people or told stories that were not based in this reality but saying that I know a few thing I did and tried to make amends for it I’m just not sure how to make restitution for certain things!

Its good advice but sometimes I think its best to let things go.

Well, see, you made the decision yourself then, so now it’s decided you can just tell God your decision and stop worrying about it.

A point of definitional clarification that might help here. Here’s the definition of mercy:

“compassion or forbearance shown especially to an offender or to one subject to one’s power”

…which unfortunately requires us to have a look at “forbearance”:

“a refraining from the enforcement of something (such as a debt, right, or obligation) that is due”

So to put it together - mercy is when someone in power (God in this case) refrains from enforcing something that is due (justice - or as Romans puts it “wrath”). By definition then - God’s forbearance - his mercy - is entirely up to Him. Said another way, if you can do something to offset judgement, mercy isn’t required. You can beg for it - but in the end, whether or not it’s granted is entirely up to the grantor.

He grants mercy to us because he loves us - not because of anything we do, or don’t do. In fact, he does it IN SPITE OF what we’ve done. The question is - how do we respond to His mercy?

#John3:16

(See - even a Calvinist can say warm and fuzzy things - OCCASIONALLY. If any of you use this against me later in a discussion of total depravity, I’ll claim that somebody hacked by CAF account)
