Are you a fan of EWTN?

Thanks to all who have contributed to this thread. I learned some new things, such as the existence of the CatholicTV network, which I didn’t know existed. I also learned that I am not alone in liking many of the EWTN programs.

I get the impression that some folks don’t care for Raymond Arroyo or the political views expressed on EWTN TV at times. There are also folks who expressed that the production style of EWTN is outdated.

While these things may be true, I appreciate the ongoing effort and sacrifice that the people behind EWTN, like Mother Angelica, have made to make quality Catholic programming a reality. Without EWTN in my area, I probably would have not been exposed to Catholicism in a positive way and would’ve maintained erroneous beliefs about the Catholic faith.

Yes a fan. I can’t get a good signal in my car but when I can I sometimes listen to EWTN radio. My favorite EWTN TV shows are Mother Angelica Live, Father Spitzer’s Universe, Franciscan University Presents, Bishop Sheen Life is Worth Living, and Pro Life Weekly. I also sometimes watch the Mass and the Sunday afternoon concerts.

I’m an atheist and I listen to EWTN regularly when I’m in my car. I like talk radio and it’s so much more inspiring and intelligent than the political talk shows. Even when I don’t agree with something the manner in which the discussion takes place is not offensive and invites critical thinking.

I am surprised, considering the number of Catholics in the USA, that it’s not better funded. As has been pointed out, production quality is often lacking and far behind that of other radio programs. The production and sound quality etc on Protestant Christian radio tends to be better.

However, many of the programs on Christian radio are part of larger separate ministries and secure their own funding from their member/ supporter base and via the sales of various resources. That seems not as common with the shows on EWTN.

I can only access it via AM here so the sound quality is crap. If I am driving near wires I can’t hear it. After dark, can’t hear it.

I support it financially when I can because of how much I listen.

I only get the TV channels that are free…and only listen to the weather when a hurricane may be landing. 😀 I tried watching on my laptop screen but wasn’t comfortable that way.

I do like to watch DVDs on the tv screen, mostly of movies on the lives of saints and heroes that I get from Ignatius Press. My friends come over for a pot luck lunch and then we watch the movie together and discuss it. This happens about once every six weeks and we look forward to it.

I am happy that EWTN exists and that many learn and benefit from it.

I feel like this kind of content doesn’t necessarily make good TV, but it does make great radio. Thoughtful explanations, quality teaching, it’s not compelling viewing. Great listening though! I personally don’t like the young beautiful people, like the lady who was on during / before the March for Life coverage. I didn’t feel like she was necessarily chosen for her deep knowledge and interviewing skills. I could be wrong though!

Here in my town we have EWTN radio for free on a local station.

If I’m home I try to listen to the evening EWTN news and the Rosary.

Also if I’m around on Sunday morning I try to catch the Catholic Mass. One of the reasons I try to attend the Saturday night vigil Mass is so I can listen to the EWTN Mass on Sunday morning.

It’s a great resource, one we’re really fortunate to have for free so close to home.

I am absolutely a fan of EWTN. It has played a significant role in my conversion. I mostly listen to EWTN radio. The TV programming and production is lacking. I will sometimes turn on the TV channel for The Journey Home and Women of Grace.

My favorite radio program is Women of Grace Live. I love Johnette! She speaks so powerfully. She almost always gives me something to think about, and she has moved me to tears several times. I also like Called to Communion and will sometimes listen to Catholic Connection in the morning and Al Kresta in the Afternoon.

I cannot stand World Over! 😒

Fo those without any EWTN station, you can download the app and get all their content for free. You can also stream them from their website I think.

I prefer watching EWTN. It’s the answer to my childhood prayer. I’m glad He used Mother Angelica as the instrument to bring it to fruition.

I rarely watch EWTN. Most of the programming, with the exception of Mass, does not appeal to me.

EWTN is excellent. They understand that there is a battle going on with the attack on marriage and family and their programming reflects that. They have continued Mother Angelica’s fight against the liberals and consequently I have increased my donation to them to help in the fight. I pretty much enjoy all their programs but standouts are

EWTN Live
Pro Life Weekly
Scripture and Tradition
Women of Grace
The World Over with Raymond Arroyo

I used to watch EWTN more often, back when Mother Angelica and Fr. Benedict Groeschel were still alive. I don’t like the conservative political slant of their news department now either.

What I like most now is watching their live coverage of special events, like when Pope Francis visits other countries. I watch it streaming via the internet.

I really like Mitch Pacwas commentaries on the Bible as he knows a lot about it. I watched it before but not any longer.
EWTN is too American for me. It’s Catholic with an American touch. I have enough videos in my native tounge to watch anyway so I rather watch those. There is an American Catholicism as there is a Swedish/Nordic Catholicism . But they did start EWTN Nordic so maybe they will come up with somethibg worth watching.
Dont get me wrong American Catholicism is ok but…I am no part of it. On the other hand maybe we have English Catholicism on EWTN but I am no part of that either.

Just curious if you listen/watch EWTN. If so, what is your favorite show? If you are Catholic and don’t like EWTN for whatever reason, please explain why, if it’s not too personal. Much appreciated.
Yes, my family watches EWTN.
I love not having to worry about what may come out of the TV.

The favorite show at the moment is from the video archive online, “The Friar”
My youngest is absolutely enraptured with it.

I’m a fan of EWTN, but I have almost never watched it or listened to it. 😝

I guess I always feel like I live EWTN, so I never actually watch it myself. I’m pretty sure that it has indirectly influenced my life in many ways.

My mom watches it religiously (pun intended 😉 ). She loves it.

I found it interesting reading about Cardinal Newman’s upcoming canonization. Both of his two confirmed miracles were for people who had learned about him by watching EWTN, and then they prayed for his intercession. So EWTN can kind of be credited for him being named a saint. 🙂

It can be done, “That Catholic Show” was doing youtube programs years ago that had good production value. CatholicTV, Newman Connection, both have programming that does not look dated.

I’m a fan! I listen to EWTN Radio while at work M-F 8-4:30 and sometimes in the car on the weekends.
My favorite is to “Christ is the Answer” by Father John Riccardo. He’s on the Classic channel daily at 2pm central time.

It’s his education background…He’s a convert who was educated at Wheaton Unviersity I believe. I agree he’s a wonderful asset to EWTN.

One issue I have is that not everything is available anymore.

Case in point is the various programs with Corapi.
I realize there may well be a need felt to distance the station from him, but some of his shows were good.

Why throw all of it out?
