I go on and off with listening to EWTN Radio and currently, I am not listening but reading this has made me want to listen again. I like Called to Communion, Catholic Answers Live, and Mother Angelica Live. At first I didn’t like Dr. Ray, but the more I listened, the more I realized that I agreed with him, so now I am a fan of his as well!

My first impression was that I thought Dr Ray was trying too hard to be funny, but later I came to realize he’s just being himself. Now I appreciate both his expertise and his sense if humor.

I honestly thought he was a little condescending at first, but I think he’s just trying to be clear in what he’s saying!

Do they still play ‘The Apostle of Common Sense’ about GK Chesterton with Dale Ahlquist? That was probably my favorite program when I actively watched EWTN. (I also liked ‘Sunday Night Live’ with Father Groeschel, the other shows not too much - though I enjoyed Father Corapi once in a while.) I stopped watching because we bought a high definition television and any channels that broadcast in low def just sort of fell by the wayside.

I like Dr. Ray also. I have read some of his books and he speaks in his books just like he does on tv and radio, so I believe you are right. It is just him being himself.

Just the name, “Papal Posse”, comes across as uncharitable. A posse is a group that bands together to catch an outlaw. Someone must have thought it was s cute play on words. But “Papal Panel” works just as well.

I do agree the word “posse” maybe might not have been the best, though, I think the catching an outlaw part has been passed down to us from old westerns. It is what most people think of when you hear the word posse.

Though, I think typically the word means a group coming together with a common interest or purpose, or group assigned by someone to enforce a law, so perhaps since they discuss canon law frequently that the reason they chose the word “posse”.

I am Catholic and benefit so much from EWTN.

It helped foster my interest in the faith about 10 years ago and has ever since.

I like much of the programming, including radio shows. I listen to Called to Communion almost every day.

If I were to criticize anything at all, I think some programs and personalities bend too far in one direction, like on how they treat Pope Francis, or how much they favor certain political parties. That can be annoying. I usually don’t watch or listen to those.

I enjoy any broadcasts involving Masses and the Pope (you can get an indulgence watching the Urbi et Orbi blessings live), the specials they run about saints and Doctors of the Church, and any rebroadcasts of Mother Angelica. Also some of the rosary recitations.

I don’t really like talk shows, especially anything with lay people, so I don’t watch those.

I don’t care about the production style. That’s not what I watch it for.

My biggest beef is that they need to make more of their programming available in streaming later for when you can’t watch in real time. Right now it’s mostly the talk shows that get streamed later and I couldn’t care less.

I truly believe Dr Ray has taken some constructive criticism to heart. He’s not insufferable like he used to be. Even though I valued his advice, I found his presentation unbearable, but several months ago there was a thread here that talked about it, and I think he toned down a great deal of his tedious behavior. I am able to enjoy him now.

I read that they produced seven seasons of ‘The Apostle of Common Sense’. I guess they’re just rebroadcasting those at this point, rather than making new ones. But Dale Ahlquist is still the president of the American Chesterton Society, and it seems like he’s keeping busy.
