Matt. 16:18, 1 Cor. 3:11, Eph. 2:20, 1 Pet. 2:5–6, Rev. 21:14

these are scriptures you catholics use to claim peter as the infallible pope and head of the catholic church. most catholics are ignorant through not reading the bible and instead going along with man-made dogma. the scriptures i have an answer for each.

Matt. 16:18-19(KJV) “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock will I build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

John 20:22-23 “And when he had said this he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: whose sover sins ye remitm they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.”

Jesus was saying that upon all those who confess that Jesus is “the Christ, the Son of the living God.”, upon them shall he build his church , which is supported by 1 Pet 2:5-6 “Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthoodm to offer up spirtual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.” The chief corner stone is none other than Christ Jesus, which I would be astounded if any catholic would disagree with that statement.

1 Cor 3:11 “For other foundation can no man lay than that is laidm which is Jesus Christ.”

Obvious foundation of Jesus as the Christ, not Peter, a man subject to like passions as we, and not infallible.

Acts 10:24-26 “And the morrow after they entered into Cesarea. And Cornelius waited for them, and had called together his kinsmen and near friends. And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him. But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.”
Puts an end to Peter’s deity and in the book of Acts as Peter was rebuked for keeping the Jewish customs, made obsolete by our Lord Jesus Christ.

Eph 2:20 "And built upon the foundations of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto a holy temple in the Lord: 22In whom you also are builded together for a habitation of God through the Spirit.

In this scripture, the apostle Paul is still trying to tell you that Jesus is the Stone and Peter, though a great man of God, was not that chief stone, and the apostles and prophets are the foundation of proof upon which it is affirmed Jesus Christ our Lord is that stone.

Lacking time, I must get back to work. Catholics, feel free to try and refute my answers, CHRISTIAN brethern, feedback is welcomed, and unbelievers, let this be a glimpse of truth for you.

In Jesus name, Jason

Hear me now again, ye Catholic. I have heard from those of the Protestant reformation that the pope is the anti-Christ. Edited out uncharitable and offensive remarks… But if they continue in their idolatry and worshipping of saints and trying to mediate through Mary, the mother of Jesus, virgin at the time of Jesus conception, than no longer virgin when she had Jesus half brothers, James and Jude, they shall have their share in the lake of fire. The anti-christ and false religion will more than likely either derive from Catholicism or another sect that calls themselves christian falsely. Take heed, o ye Catholics.

I take heed only of the Truth. And that’s not coming out of your mouth Jason. Stop flooding the thread please.

What matters is a new creation, not quarrels. It is no longer the Christian himself who lives, but Christ lives in him. Let us live and walk in the Spirit, okay? Let us not challenge one another.

Jason, one of the problems with your argument (amoung many ) is that you are adding words or phrases to the text that are not there. There is not one plural pronoun in the entire text that you have cited. Jesus no less than 7 times uses the singular pronoun you when refering to Peter, and once uses the singular pronoun him (v. 17) " And Jesus answered him…" Cleary Jesus is speaking to Peter and Peter alone. There are several texts through out both the Old and New Teastaments that refer to the primacy of Peter. You should read also some of the literary works of the church fathers ,and texts that were not included in the canon of scripture. This will give you a better understanding of what the early Catholic church believed and practiced.

Jason, I am saying this to you out of Christian charity: you are being rude and, I fear, are in danger of being suspended for your behavior. I’d much rather see you in true conversation about the faith than haranguing fellow believers in Christ.

Why not involve yourself in a reasoned and Christlike discussion about individual issues, treating everyone else with the dignity that you would ask from others? You will find more than enough people to respond to you if you behave respectfully.

In Jesus name, Jason
You really shouldn’t be saying that. The things you’re doing shouldn’t be done in Jesus’ name.

It’s been said that if Jesus came back and saw all the things being done in His name, He couldn’t stop throwing up.

I doubt this would make Him throw up, but He probably wouldn’t be too happy about it! 👍

One can be Christian and not Catholic. However, one cannot be Catholic and not Christian. 🙂
Technically, if a person is baptized, they’re Catholic whether they want to be, know it, or not!

Of course they don’t hold to the authority of the Pope, so in that way they aren’t Catholic. However, just like some anarchist who doesn’t listen to the President, follow the laws, or agree with many of the opinions of the US government is still an American, so too is a baptized person who doesn’t listen to the Pope or believe in Catholic beliefs still a Catholic, technically.

Don’t tell them though, you’ll get them mad 😛

This may be a silly question, but I thought a chaplain at a hospital was either a priest or minster. If you’re Catholic, what does your title as ‘chaplain’ mean?
I think what Elzee may be trying to get at is that in the not too distant past there was a communication from Rome that lay people should not have the title of Chaplain. I have yet to figure out how to avoid this in a community hospital that is not administered by the Church or what you would be called in a hospital that listened to Rome on this matter. They will call you what they will. Actually it can create difficulties for a Catholic patient who wants to receive the sacrament of pennance. I mean here you are a man, a Catholic, and a Chaplain. What are they likely to conclude? 👍

I don’t care what they call me as long as I get me free lunch.

The problem with telling patients that I am “with spiritual care” is that they don’t know what to do with that information. As soon as I say chaplain, they understand. So far no one has tried to confess to me.

Your problem is that you are not a harmless looking female, dressed in street clothes, with a dorky nametag that always hangs a bit crooked.😃

(I’m joking with you).

in the words of St. Pacian of Barcelona

"Christian is my name, and Catholic my surname. The one designates me, while the other makes me specific. Thus am I attested and set apart… When we are called Catholics it is be this appellation that our people are kept apart from any heretical name.
