Hi All,
Do you ever get tired of standing up for your morals. My big thing is standing up for what I believe in but I mean, its so EXHAUSTING!!! There are times when I am just ready to give my defense cells a vacation. Then I just get so sick of it that they blast off again…Anybody ever feel like that?

I find myself standing up for them a lot to my mother and sister who are not Catholic and are of the opinion that your morality and sexuality are subject to your own opinion and nobody else’s.

Being in my early 20’s in today’s society it is very challenging not to fall into the relativistic, anything-goes, lifestyle. I don’t really get tired of standing up for my morality, I just feel very sorry for people that have no morality. I pray for my friends and family every day and try to be a good example.

There are times when I know it would be easier to just “go with the flow,” but I know in my heart that I have to be true to myself and to what I believe in. If I am around people who are constantly judging me or trying to corrupt me, I would definitely get away from them and then pray for them. YOU have to be yourself, and if people dont accept that, then tough. That is who you are and you are happy like that. I will pray for you and for your struggles.

Hi Tradcat,

To answer simply: Yes and no. I say “no” in that I feel at times like a hypocrite when I stand up for what I believe in. I am surely not sinless, so who am I to correct someone else, right? Well…I am a light of Christ. (Mt 5:16) Perhaps a very small light, and perhaps I flicker and become nearly dark at times, but I am a light nonetheless. So when I feel that I can stand up for Christ’s teachings, or explain misconceptions about His Holy Church, I do it with gladness! (The trick with me, I find, is that I must be very careful so as not to let arrogance into the conversation–those are not my morals I am standing up for, they are the Lord’s!)

Peace,
Alberich

What I find tiring is the lack of moral development of many within our culture. This means not only standing up for your morals, but explaining the whole why we need morals, what they are, why should we live by them, and so on. This is a lot of work and shows a major failing in how many children in our culture are raised.

Thank you all for you support. I was wondering if any of you know of a book or tape (I am a tapeworm…:-D) that helps up to defend your morals and explain them to others.

“It is from numberless diverse acts of courage and belief that human history is thus shaped. Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of opression and resistance.”

I agree with you. It does get exhausting but don’t give up! Great is your reward in heaven!
I’m not sure if this website will help you or not. I think Fr Corapi is wonderful and he gives a good talk. Immortal Combat may be a good resource for you. Hang in there!

Don’t give up. I still work a regular job, where most know that that my heart is in serving the Lord. They even clean up their language at times and tone down their jokes. This gives me hope.

Don’t look for a sign…be a sign!

Quite frankly I am tired of people asking me for my opinion then get mad at me for waht I say. My view is, if you don’t want to hear my opinion, don’t ask for it. My family often asks me what I think of the moral soundness of certain issues and I just be blunt with them and tell them where I stand. They don’t appreciate my bluntness…
