Are you going to see the Da Vinci Code?

Generally, the books are better than the movies so I read the book… It… um… sucked… I can’t imagine the movie would be better.

I’ll stick my neck out here. National Treasure was fairly clean as modern movies go (no sex, etc). So it wasn’t that bad.
 
I haven’t seen a movie in the theater since TPOTC. Nothing interests me. Film makers just aren’t making the effort anymore to make GREAT movies.

Hubby and I almost went to see Ice Age Meltdown last week, but bagged out. We are outdoor people and its hard to sit still that long.

I hate going to the movies to see half a**ed movies. Waste of my time, my mind, and my money.

Dittos. 👍 Today they remake the old [good] movies into bad movies. :banghead:
 
I would like to ask someone who has seen it, a serious question. How does it influence your faith? I have no interest in seeing it, but I understand the basic idea is that Jesus Christ got married and had children like everybody else, only the wicked old Church doesn’t want anybody to know about it. I think I read that at the climax of the movie some woman is said to be the last living descendant of Jesus Christ.

Sure its only fiction, but does it do anything to your faith to consider this kind of thing?

I read the book and saw the movie and it had zilch effect on my faith. Great book-lousy movie.
 
If I am not mistaken, the Da Vinci code proposes falsehood about Jesus. I don’t understand how it can be right to see such a film or read such a book. Even so called fiction is wrong when it is disrespectful to God.

No, but I very rarely go to movies anyhow. Haven’t had a TV set for over 21 years. Read a lot of books, but with so much good stuff around, I see no reason to waste time on Da De Vinci Code. My three cats insist on being spoiled rotten. This includes regarding my rosary as a nifty cat toy:rolleyes:
 
I have copies of both “Angels & Demons”, and “DaVinci Code”. Read both.

Just watched the film version of DaVinci Code on DVD this afternoon…

The film does a respectable job of translating a good-sized book into a 2-hour movie. But like any movie compromises & compression are used. I felt that the character development left a little to be desired.

The Robert Langdon character played by Tom Hanks, IMO actually had more of a defensive edge in regard to Christian beliefs than the author’s Langdon. Hank’s interpretation (or the screenwriter’s) kept things open-minded, and pressed that many things are theory, interpretation, or a guess… nothing is 100% cast in stone and there is always another side to a story.

The Silas character was portrayed as a crazed monk, with little development. You just see him shooting people and whipping himself. The book goes into some detail of his childhood, and why he is doing what he does.

I don’t think the book or the film is disrespectful. It just offers some interesting food for thought about a possible other side of the story about Jesus.
 
My wife and I try to be selective about the movies we rent. Echoing something Hank Haanergraff said when interviewed by fox is that movies affect us in the sense that the present a worldview, the paraboles were stories that Christ told and they were used to convey a Christian worldview.

With the DaVinci code a new age view is furthered at the expense of atacking the divinity of Christ. Many sloppy Christians say it just intertainment and provides food for though, I just do not see entertainment value in seeing our church and our God being being distorted.

My two cents. I guess I am not enlighten.

One of the wonderful things about the entertainment world today is the rich variety of offerings. There is something for everyone. Some like one thng. Others like something else. Entertainment value is subjective.
