I’m with the “they won’t get a penny of my money” crowd. I did buy the book, because so many people in my family were talking about it & loved it, completely bought into it. So many people focus on the claims that Jesus was married & had children, when I am way more concerned that it claims Jesus was not God, just a really great guy. Like Ghandi or something. It probably did not affect many people who come to this site, but what about more secular Christians & Catholics? I really worry about young people, as that seems to be a natural time to question one’s faith. I saw a college student I know reading it at Christmas Eve mass. Lots of people believe it, & it can affect their salvation. It might be fiction, but many people also bought into the fact that Christ’s Church is the most murderous, deceptive thing out there. I think Brown had a definite agenda beyond entertainment. I have always loved Ron Howard, (how can you not?), but he said he wasn’t going to tone the film version down because he LIKED the book. Tom Hanks was speaking to introduce Howard at an awards dinner shortly before the film came out, I think it was the American Film Institute or something like that. Hanks said something like, I’ll follow you anywhere, I’d follow you to hell. It was the weirdest thing to say. I used to love them both, but it’s very serious to lead many people astray. Thank God for His Divine Mercy. Sorry to be so verbose, but I can’t understand how many people treat this like it’s no big deal.
