I did not realize that Pope John Paul II felt he had a problem with pride. The part about the plea and then assassin of Bishop Oscar Romero was very moving.
This was very moving and enlightening for me too.

What time on Sun? I need to set the DVR now so I won’t forget! LOL:whacky:

Just saw the ABC movie…couldn’t help but cry at the end!

Funny thing - I was watching the movie on my computer, and after bawling at the end, I closed the program down - and on the other side as a wallpaper (thanks to WebShots) was the Holy Father himself…the words “be not afraid” echoeing in my heart…

God Bless JPII!

🙂

I posted my thoughts on this film on the other thread.

Didin’t care for it that much, but it was ok. As I said on the other thread, all it did was make me miss him more. 😦

Unfortunately I had no idea that this one was on last night. Knew about the Jon Voight film. I got to watch the last 1/2 hour or so. In the limited amount I watched I felt the pain of those last years. I thought it was interesting how they briefly treated the recent scandals in the church - no absolution, he (JPII) insisted we had to face this head on! Hopefully those who have a disdain for the CC in my family watched this! It will make for interesting conversation at our Christmas get together (I’m the only practicing Catholic out of 6 siblings)!

My question for those who watched it - the end had flashbacks from what I assume was shown earlier in the movie. Was that JPII earlier in life kissing a woman and who was she? It wasn’t his mother. I don’t know a whole lot about JPII’s life prior to the priesthood.

The woman was an actress in a “kissing scene” in a play shown early on. The woman was also a dear friend of his and was Jewish and was leaving for Israel. The story did allude to his having strong feelings for her and she gave him a “friendship ring” as she was saying her goodbyes to him… I didn’t totally understand this part --anyone else have anything to say on this?
