"Are You Holy Enough To Receive Communion?"

You folks are a tough bunch. It’s interesting those who object to it, but can’t say why or what is wrong with it. The catechism is cited to support every point. The test is not really meant for “fun”. It’s a legitimate test meant to inform, which was posted by my friend, a priest, on twitter. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

(2) I haven’t posted on this thread before, but I don’t mind making myself look like a prude by sharing why I don’t like it. It has nothing to do with the quiz itself, which I found harmless, but the suggestive photos on question 9 and 10.

I do have some “baggage” in this area though and might be more sensitive to that sort of thing, which is why I chose not to post…but since you mentioned it, that is why.

I also know a few people who could benefit from this quiz. It seems to be geared towards people who call themselves Catholic out of habit but don’t have a strong faith or knowledge, and I think it achieved that goal.

#2 does seem confusing for converts. Maybe they could have added a “convert clause” to the question.

Beneath this question, before you get it “wrong” or “right”, the quiz says that “My stance on the death penalty does not affect my ability to receive communion.”

Well, that’s the only one I got wrong…and it says you “may” be able to receive communion. Because of being opposed to the death penalty?

As to #3, I guess St. Justin Martyr, St. Irenaeus, Pope St. Gelasius and in fact almost all Christians in the first millenium would be unworthy to take communion, since they did not believe that the bread and wine “disappeared” at the consecration. Nor, for that matter, do I.

I have an issue with the various “Have you…” questions, simply because they’re not clear enough that only unconfessed mortal sin prevents us from receiving communion. The way it’s worded it would catch anyone who has ever committed one of the sins listed. It’s sort of annoying to click on something one might have done at some point and get that big red X!
