Are you in a large parish or a small parish?

Same here. There should be many more Catholics but many Latinos have joined Pentecostal churches.

Go figure, maybe they like all the noise the Pentecostals make?
We’re about 60% Phillipino–but I think it’s a reflection of the community make-up. Most of the Phillipinos here seem to be either Catholic or JW–not sure why the JW as opposed to other Protestant sects.

Around here(west Texas) many Latinos are also JWs and SDAs. In fact when the two by two missionaries see you don’t speak Spanish they just turn away and don’t bother you. Not a bad thing!

Most of the Filipinos around here are Catholic, but if they aren’t Catholic, they tend to be Evangelical Christians. I’m assuming it’s because the Evangelicals are sending missionaries to what they consider “non-Christian” countries, as a few Evangelicals I know have told me. I know that not all Evangelicals think this way, but certain sects do.

Small parish. It stays open partly because of its historical significance, along with the generosity of the parishioners, good economic/business acumen of the pastorand the income made from weddings of couples who aren’t parishioners.
I will add that I much prefer small to medium parishes. I like the intimate feel. As an introvert, very large parishes are emotionally and mentally draining for me. It just feels like too many people are in your face. It’s a different kind of culture which I have a difficult time navigating. Most people probably enjoy and appreciate that, but for me, it’s just hard.

Very small parish. I’d guess probably the smallest parish most people will ever see. We’ve got 18 registered families, but about 12 families are able to regularly attend. Average Sunday attendance is about 60, with nearly half of those being children under 12.
There is a Byzantine parish near me that has an average attendance at the DL of less than 20. I visited a few times and I think I made #20.😦 And yes, this is normal attendance, as I know the Pastor and have discussed it with him.

I do not think this church will stay open much longer.

I don’t know how a parish size is defined.
Our parish has 14,000 parishioners. We have an 80% Mass attendance and require 10 Masses every Sunday to accommodate everyone. We have 3 priests.
Regarding my parish, is that considered small, medium or large?

That is a very large parish. My parish has only 2 masses a weekend. The parishes considered large around here might have 5 or 6 masses a weekend… and I live in a metropolitan area and one that is known as “very” Catholic, but it’s more culturally Catholic, now. The abuse scandal really rocked this diocese and it’s still trying to recover.

not sure of the exact size…but we have two priests (generally both are at Sunday Mass, if one is not, we have an Acolyte or Permanent Deacon for the 2nd spot for Communion. We do not use EMHCs for anything other than taking communion to the home bound) and we support a parish grade school and the local Catholic high school. There are usually around 300 or so students in the grade school…not sure how many families that would be…as there are also elderly parishoners and those with teen children or college aged children.
Pius X High School. Go Thunderbolts.😃

I go to a very, very small parish. About 50 people at Mass each week, and the church can hold about 200 people. My parish is part of a tri-parish area. We only have one Mass a week (plus other Holy Days), and that is a Vigil Mass.

I’m a member of a medium suburban parish. We have 1,500 families and 3,500 registered parishioners with 1,000 to 1.250 attending on the weekend. We have Saturday at 5:30, Sunday at 9 and 11:30 and a ASL Mass at 1:45 on the 1st/3rd/5th Sunday of the month. We are considered the more “Spirit of Vatican 2” parish in our area but I think that a lot of people exaggerate what my parish does.

I belong to a very large parish. There is currently five resident priests and there is seven Masses each Sunday. Four in English and three in Spanish. The parish has a capacity of around 800 people which is not enough because there is usually someone who remains standing.
