Are you likely to ask a deceased friend to pray for you?

I’m in the habit of praying for family and friends who have passed on and also asking them to pray for me.

The only Catholic member of the family I had(grandmother ) died before I was born and didn’t go to mass every week. Married a Protestant before Vatican 2 and had my mother. When she died the priest argued with her sisters about burying her as he hadn’t seen her at mass every week. They spent hours in there arguing with the priest and he eventually allowed it. Family story. Fair to say my mother had a huge chip on her shoulder about the church and while she supported my conversion I always wonder if she thought I was doing the right thing as she never has a positive view of the church. I pray for my non practicing grandmother and talk to my deceased mother who has a mighty faith, but through God. I’m still Learning.

Our late parish priest used to keep us on his prayer list and on the parish prayer list longer than we should have been.

And our late parish secretary did the same for us. I honored her by naming one of my kittens after her.

So yes, I pray for them and ask them to continue praying for us.

I pray for my mother, and I pray to her, “If you’ve made it to Heaven already, pray for me and my family. We could sure use some help!”
