Are you pro-gun, or anti-gun?

Are guns a “social justice” issue? I’m curious if they’ve been framed as such before. I guess it makes sense … just seemed like a surprise.

There was a consensus in 1788 enacted in 1789. The 2nd amendment in the bill of rights of the Constitution.

Seems like these days everyone wants to tell everyone else what to do. When to do it. and who to do it with.

We seem to have a lack of respect for freedom and a lack of respect for the Constitution.

A fundamental of Catholicism is free will.

More fun with numbers…
Code:
The United States ranks **3rd in murders throughout the World**.
However, if you take out** Chicago, Detroit, Washington DC, and New Orleans**, the United States is** 4th from the bottom for murders.**

These 4 Cities have the toughest Gun Control Laws in the United States.

All 4 are also controlled by liberal minded Democrats.

Would it be absurd to draw any conclusions from this data?

A quick glance at the dramatic drop in crime in those cities over the last decade or more, suggests that they were possibly out of control crime hubs in the past hence the need for common sense gun policies to turn the attitudinal tide.

This demonstrates why statistics are so ripe for propaganda.

Maybe it’s because I don’t have time to read through and interpret all those statistics but I don’t get it. Would you explain?

The explanation is this:

When people are free, they tend to do things they ought not to do.

Therefore, the solution is tyranny, so that people no longer have the freedom that causes so much trouble.

It’s like the sign hanging over Auschwitz “Arbeit Macht Frei” work makes freedom. Take away every possible right, put the government in charge of all literally everything, and people can then live nice, happy, safe lives, doing nothing without the government’s permission.

The same argument was used to justify slavery in the US South. Take away their freedom and have a nice benevolent government (or plantation owner) who makes everyone’s decisions. Presto! Everyone’s happy.

Problem is, things don’t work that way.

That’s the explanation of gun control. Take away people’s freedom, and we’ll all be sooo much happier. Then we move on to the next “problem” caused by freedom.

Thank you Fr. David. You wrote “When people are free, they tend to do things they ought not to do.” This is of course true. Witness that we have free will which is why I am grateful to you and to your brother priests for answering the call to the priesthood so that we can go to confession (when we do the things we ought not to do) and receive the Eucharist.

I think that Queensland, AU, which has a major biker gang problem (they refer to them as bikies) is learning this lesson the hard way. See the url below.

If you think that’s draconian, there was a new “law” (it wasn’t a law, as such, just a regulation) that gave the local government the power to decide how much soda a person was allowed to drink. That was in New York City. It was done away with on a technicality, but the powers-that-be are trying to reinstate it.

The same people who say that a 12 year old has a “constitutional right” to have an abortion and keep that secret from her parents, say that a 45 year old can’t drink 13 ounces of coca cola. Go figure. 🤷

It was just an observation in scanning that city.data.com site that recorded a decade of crime rates. While the US national average murder rate is 5 per 100,000 people, the average for the cities of New Orleans, Detroit and Washington DC has been in the 40s, 50s and even 60 murders per 100,000. Chicagos was up to 23 per 100,000.

That seems to indicate that those cities have been traditional crime hubs prior to the stricter gun controls.

Queensland has no worse of a bikie problem then other states. It’s just that its across the national news at the moment because our conservative State government is coming down like a tonne of bricks on them. They are arrested for even being seen in public places together. Draconian maybe. The rest of us are singing alleluias up and down the coast. New South Wales has begun to follow our lead now and no doubt the other States will follow as the bikies move on. Still the Queensland murder rate is fairly comparable to the national average of 1 per 100,000 people.

Well, I won’t get into all of those statistics but I know more about Chicago (which is a gun free city) and here is a stat for you huffingtonpost.com/2012/06/16/chicago-homicide-rate-wor_n_1602692.html

Finally a consensus…👍

Let us leave out all the propaganda statistics, numbers, and conjectures and ask why should law abiding people be deprived of a freedom?

If freedom justifies armed defense, what limits the type of weapons that can be used so long as they are dedicated to ‘self defense’? Could I use an armoured tank to defend my life in suburbia?

The guy across the street has one… it’s old and inoperable… more like yard art…

Why sure, whatever floats your boat. However I probably should warn you that it will be a bit difficult to conceal carry that puppy.

We have a Ford truck in the garage that isn’t being used much now a days, I’m thinking of selling it and getting a P-51 Mustang

bing.com/th?id=HN.608016220750283227&pid=3.1&w=300&h=300&p=0

I promise I’ll only use it to get from point A to point B and carry heavy objects just like the truck.
