I guess I have spoken to a number of Priests who have heard the confession of people who’ve had abortions, but never raised it to the excommunication level. I just wondered how mnay mortal sins are also worthy of said punishment.
Attacking the Pope. This protects him from some cardinal assasinating him and then getting elected pontiff himself. He can’t, because he is excommunicated and it is a reserved to the pope kind to get rid of it.

Break the seal of confession.

Priest absolves his partner in adultery.

Priest tries to get married without dispensation.

A layperson “celebrating” the sacrament (I assume as pretending to be a priest at a “mass”).

Desceration of the Eucharist.

Abortion (not reserved to pope, but given to bishops, who, I presume, pawn it off on the priests). As you can see, this is the one that would most likely apply to a layperson.
