So I am interested in how a fellow Catholic would respond. I have many Protestant pastors coming to my door. I know they see my statue of the Blessed Mother and come running šŸ˜›
So when the pastor finishes his speech and ask you if you are ā€œsavedā€ what will be your reply? We Catholics are being saved everyday! Praise God for his mercy and love!

Keep it respectful please and try not to stray off topic.

Recently my friend’s daughter got caught up in a small group of ā€œnon-denominationalā€ Christians whose teachings were dubious at best. Anyway, one day my friend gets a text from her that says how amazing she feels because she was finally ā€œsavedā€. She asked me how she should respond to that, as she was very distraught and shaken by it. I advised her to remind her daughter that she was baptized in the Catholic Church, which means that her mother (my friend) committed her to Christ on her behalf and placed an indelible mark on her soul. And then as she became older, she went through CCD classes and eventually became confirmed as a Catholic, which means that she made a commitment of her own to offer her life to Christ and follow His teachings…and that every year during mass she repeated and confirmed the baptismal vows to further solidify her acceptance of Christ as her Lord and Savior. And lastly, that if she didn’t fully understand the meaning of these events, that she may wish to take a little more time in understanding what her Catholic faith TRULY taught her and gave her before hastily abandoning it and thinking she ever needed to ā€œget savedā€ to begin with.

She’s since decided that she is open to meeting with the local parish priest to further discuss her options šŸ™‚

I feel confident enough to say that yes, i am in deed saved. but i know my work is cut out for me. and i know how dangerous certain ideologies that stray from the catholic teaching can be. some feel that they are saved and therefor perhaps they sin etc. often we are reminded in the church teaching that some have made a ā€œshipwreckā€ of their faith. and clearly christ teaches to abide in him, meaning that there is a chance that we may leave him. Howeveri do have great joy in the church, and feel very safe within teh church, through its sacraments and structure, i feel the road to heaven is easy. through suffering everyday and dying to self, we are made strong through our weakness… we resemble christ and we stand for god, be not afraid!

and rembmer, we are children of the light, people through our actions or inactions, the wway we talk and how we act… notice… and become curious, and want the same, and through us even without words spoken may lead them to god throug his glorious spirit and power amen

I say, ā€œYES, Amen I am saved brother!ā€ I am baptized in the Catholic Church for the forgiveness of my sins, and I believe! Mark 16:16 I obey the ten commandments, and in Mathew 19:17 Jesus said, …"If you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments. I GO TO HOLY COMMUNION IN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH. IN JOHN 6:53 JESUS SAID, ā€œAMEN, AMEN, I SAY TO YOU, UNLESS YOU EAT THE FLESH OF THE SON OF MAN AND DRINK HIS BLOOD YOU HAVE NOT LIFE WITH IN YOU.ā€ ** Brother, are you saved if you have not life with in you? Have you gone to Communion in the Catholic Church which Jesus Christ established for your salvation?**

Thanks! Really nice!šŸ‘

I like that lol
It’s kind of cute, but it can be a good jumping off point. The focus of our faith and salvation should always be Christ’s work on the cross. How can we have perfect faith if it is not a gift given and nourished by God? Yet many protestants rely on their faith to save them. It is Christ’s work on the cross that perfects our faith, not our own efforts to believe and be saved.

I don’t know about other protestants, but the bolded is what I have always been taught and believed as a Lutheran. šŸ‘

I keep a selection of good Catholic tracts with me and one is Questions Catholics Are Asked: Are You Saved?

Questions Catholics Are Asked: Are You Saved? Author: Paul Thigpen List Price: 15.95 US$
Package of 50 ISBN: 978-1-59276-322-1 ID #: P421 Copyright: 2007 Pages: 1 Format: Pamphlet Availability: Usually ships next business day
Catholics are being questioned about their faith and too often they feel ill equipped to respond. What would you say if you were put on the spot by a stranger at your door, a co-worker, or a neighbor with the question, "Are you saved?"Using stories, practical examples, and Scripture, Questions Catholics Are Asked: Are You Saved? will give you the confidence to not only respond to the question, but to even lead the conversation if you want to.
For a non-reproducible PDF of this pamphlet, click here. The PDF is meant for review only and should not be reproduced in any form.
Well worth the very minor investment to be able to readily defend the faith and share it at the same time.

Oh it’s something that most protestants believe. But the question for the ā€œare you savedā€ crowd is whether their view of salvation truly fits with the proper emphasis on Christ’s work. If it is our own effort to have enough faith that gains us salvation, do we really have the proper emphasis?

Thanks for the opportunity.

Matt.7: 13-14 ā€œ"Enter by the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is easy, that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard, that leads to life, and those who find it are few. ā€œ

All of these are essentail elements

I agree. The phrase itslef often comes from the ā€œdecision theologyā€ folks. The emphasis seems to ignore Ephesians 2:8.

I have been hit with the same question quite often over the years, particularly by door to door evangelists. It may be facetious and a bit disrespectful but the answer ā€œYes, the Pope told me soā€ usually sends them scurrying.

Well I can’t say that I’ve ever had anyone come to my door and ask that question - but then I don’t have a statue of the BVM in my front yard either.
Mostly they ask, ā€œDo you have a Churchā€ or something like that…But if instead they were to ask ā€œam I savedā€ā€¦my answer would be the same.
Yes. I’m Catholic".
Then it would be up to them whether they wanted to continue the conversation…which they could only do in one of two ways.
  1. They could consider me ā€œhighly deceivedā€ and attack the teachings of the Church…a decision that they would very quickly find useless
  2. They could be intrigued by the answer and being asking questions…a tactic that just might bring them into the fullness of the faith.
But anyway - up to now the only folks who have stopped by have been JWs and LDS…and it’s a funny thing…but I haven’t seen either of these in some time…
Think my address has been blacked off their lists? 😃

But all kidding aside…I think it best to keep the answer simple.
Unless you are in a state of unrepentant mortal sin…you are saved…at that moment…and therefore a simple ā€œyesā€ is perfectly acceptable. And if you are busy this is the way to go. If you want have the time and are inclined…then add the ā€œI am Catholicā€ to the end and see what their reaction is. Then go fro there.

Peace
James

I would say I am honoring Saint Paul advice and working my salvation with fear and trembling. Or say Philippians 2:12 that is how I hope to be saved. If you quote the Bible it may shock them because a lot of Protestants think Catholics are forbidden to read the Bible.

If they keep pressing you you could throw out that the Bible forbids judging other people’s salvation that only belongs to God.

Or you could try to evangelize them and turn right around and ask if they eat of Christ’s flesh and drink of His blood to have eternal life in them. Their response will be that it is only a symbol and just respond back with if was a symbol why did so many disciples leave Jesus and and why didn’t Jesus correct them and why did Saint Paul say we have to be careful when we receive the body and blood of Chirst so we do not profane it? You can’t profane a symbol. If they say yes then just ask if they are Catholic which they won’t be because we believe Jesus is really present Proteestants don’t.

So when the pastor finishes his speech and ask you if you are ā€œsavedā€ what will be your reply?
I’ve been asked the question often. I always say, ā€œyes.ā€ And then go one about my business.

BTW, my home and telephone, are things I pay for. I don’t think anyone gets to monopolize my time in them with their own agenda. I close doors and hang up.

God wouldn’t want us to lie about it. Catholics don’t know if the are saved or not and lying isnt going to help their cause.
