Are you serving in one form or another for any of the Christmas Masses?

This will be the first Christmas Mass in a number of years that my son will sit with me in the pew. He has been an altar server at Christmas for at least the past 5 years.

I’m not sure what I think, yet.
Sometimes its just nice to sit in the pew. A lot of serves need to take a break sometimes.

I wanted to get to Midnight Mass tonight (EF) but it’s too far away. I’ll be serving Christmas Mass for Daytime though (EF). Or perhaps the celebrant will use the Second Mass. It wont make a difference really. The prayers at the foot of the altar remain the same and they’ll always need someone to handle the cruets :D.

This Christmas has dredged up the same feelings I had last Easter… the complete lack of accessibility to the traditional liturgy or parish life. There isn’t even a Sunday (EF) Mass in my diocese. Never mind the Holy Triduum!

This time of year makes me sad… and a feeling of having been robbed creeps in… followed by anger. But it always returns to sadness.

Serving in the choir @ and one of three cantors the 10 pm Mass Christmas Eve and 10 am Mss Christmas Day.

I had to pinch hit for the cantor at the beginning of our 5:30 Mass today since the 4:15 overflow mass ended late. Mind you I am not a cantor and I had just been to the 4:00 Family Mass in my usual run around make sure everything runs smooth at the most crowded mass of the year role. I was sure glad the opening hymn was O Come All Ye Faithful and was even happier that the cantor arrived before the Gloria since they were singing a newer one than the chant version we had been singing before Advent, and I never heard it until the 4:00 Mass. She can running in at the end of the Entrance Hymn and then I was able to go home.

One thing I love about being involved in the Holy Mass is that I can serve for special times like Christmas. I have to read at the Midnight Mass and then serve at the Mass at Dawn on Christmas Day.
I served at the Midnight Mass in the EF (it was a Low Mass) and I will be serving at a Solemn High Mass (also Extraordinary Form) later on today 🙂

At the vigil mass I was the sacristan, the usher, and musician.
At midnight mass I will be the sacristan, the choir and will probably serve and probably be the EMHC.
At morning mass I will be the sacristan and musician.

I tend to wear many hats, very small parish. I will be surprised if there are more than 5 people at midnight mass. Hopefully I’ll have to eat those words.
We had 70 people at the vigil mass which is amazing, our average is between 20 and 25.

I just got back from Midnight Mass, and there’s something so great about it. It feels so solemn and joyful for the Word made flesh. I loved at the end of Mass when the bells began to play, and they beautifully played “Silent Night”, “O Holy Night”, and “Joy to the World”. I just love starting off Christmas with this Mass.

I served at our Great Compline and Divine Liturgy. I also made the prosphora (Communion bread) at bread for Litya.

I’m thrilled to say that I have to eat those words! I was sacristan at midnight mass. We had 25 people there and plenty of lectors and EMHC’s and even an usher! Got to bed at 3 and am up and will leave in about 40 minutes for morning mass.

I lectored at the 4 PM Christmas eve mass and ended up as an EMHC as weel. The church was PACKED and 5 people couldn’t volunteer? So I did 🙂

We had a guy pulled in to service as EMHC at 7pm who had never done it before. Poor guy was obviously clueless and nervous and had no idea where to go. It was strange, because the place was packed and there were many other possible choices.

I ended up being a lucifer. 😛
😃

Being the thurifer is my permanent job whenever we have it now. I love doing the incense! Too bad we will only do it next weekend, and then it will be absent until Palm Sunday. 😦

Ah, I remember the days as an altar server…

My only part in Christmas this year was doing the sanctuary design. Bethlehem was my theme this year (or Tatooine, pending your opinion 🙂 )

12Midnight as acolyte EF Sung w/ Christmas Proclamation and Blessing of Creche
9AM Dawn Mass as thurifer/acolyte EF Sung
11AM Day Mass as MC EF Solemn High

Been there, done that, still there.
😦 😦

Easter is worse than Christmas.
After Lord of the Dance and Peter Cottontail, I will never, ever go to an Easter Sunday Mass in my home parish again, unless things change dramatically.
Regardless of how much it costs me to travel to a place where I can attend Mass and feel like a Catholic, I will spend it.
