Arguing for the Church on Homosexulaity

Does anybody know of any websites with in-depth arguments for the Catholic Church on this issue? I feel I could do an “okay” job of defending myself and the Church on this issue, but I’m eager to be 100% secure! A site with common questions answered would be really useful…

I would say that it depends on what kind of view you want to take. Are you taking a religious view, as to argue with other Christians, or are you wanting to take a more secular view for those that are not religious or non-Christians?

Can’t offer any specific sites…but I have been thinking about the various arguments lately and it seems to me that, in arguing the position of the Church it really comes down to two basic things.

1. The Church teaches that marriage is between a man and a woman - as described by Jesus Himself.
2. The Church teaches that sex outside of marriage is a sin.

Neither of these things is going to change.
It doesn’t matter what kind of spin someone tries to put on the matter.
This approach disarms the person who wants to make the Church out as being homophobic or somehow hating homosexuals. The fundamental teachings are clear and apply across the board.

So - if you understand why the Church teaches these two things, then you are as properly equipped as you can be.

Okay, so one of the questions I had is: “Is the government even capable of redefining marriage?” Will the Church accept it has been redefined? If it hasn’t, what’s the problem?

Thank you! In reply to other question: I think I’d be looking for any and all arguments as I know some Christians do support it and, of course, many atheists do as well! So being able to meet people on grounds familiar to them would be nice.

Short answer is - Yes the government is capable of redefining marriage as it would be applied in Civil Law.
No the Church would not accept such a redefinition and would not perform marriages between same sex couples.

That said…there could be issues in other, non-sacramental areas. Employee health insurance for instance where the spouse can be carried.
I don’t know how this might be handled.

So if this is passed (for me here in England), do I accept it has been redefined? The relation between Church and State is interesting here… Are there two types of marriage (Sacramental and Civil)?

I assume our stance is we accept that in the civil sense marriage has been redefined and that that is a bad thing.

I expect that should this occur the bishops in England will provide guidance on this. So I suggest you wait and see what happens. In the meantime pray…
