Exactly! And multiple washers and dryers doesn’t hurt, either.
Yes, but even multiple washers and dryers still make mess! They still have to be reminded to clean up their mess or am I doing something wrong?
How could you possibly get through all that washing???

I wish the Duggars had a blog they kept up with daily. It was be really cool to get the “inside look” at their day to day living.

A few post back, someone mentioned the Duggars have their own church. I don’t think they go to an particular church. In the early shows, they would get together with one or two other large families and just have worship services in their house. I’m pretty sure this was how they were worshiping, but things could have changed.

As for the big family discussion, I say more power to ya! I would love to spend time with a large family, seeing how the mom/dad deal with the minute to minute things. It would be a blessing!

I would love to have 17 children and own 25 acres of land and have a huge house.

Woohoo! That would be awesome.

And to chime in with my experience on a topic…my mom has done the whole “raise them then pass them to a girl” thing and it really has fulfilled my life. I think it does of course have to be done with clear communication…for example my sister who is a year younger than me did not want to tote little kids around and preferred a more single life so she doesn’t do anything such as caring for a baby.

But I usually get the next one after he or she is weaned. And from then on I love caring for them. Work and school lately has almost ended this streak of mini-parenting unfortunately.

Also, to clarify something that many people immediately conclude: there is definitely no confusion over who is the mommy. This situation of the older child caring for the younger is almost like perfected daycare. It is a really integrated and wholesome way to do it.

to clear stuff up

The buddy system doesn’t mean the child is the mom. I think the tv perseves it as such but it really isn’t so. You can hardly tell the child has a buddy

the house isn’t perfect it is lived in

Jennifer is due the 29th not the 28th

They sometimes go to a Baptist church

Michelle usually goes to her due date even with having this many children 🙂

:):twocents: :bible1: ❤️

sorry I was worng it is between the 28th and the 29th her due date 🙂 I hope it happens on your birthday!

First of all, I give them credit for being able to think of all those names!!
👍 We have a rule that the first name has to begin with a different letter of the alphabet from all the other members in the house. (So far, we have A, B, C, D, E, J, K, M, R, T) AND boys have to be biblical names, girls have to be saint names.

that is so neat Martha!!🙂

I have never seen this family on TV, but would love to. I think it all sounds like so much fun. They are doing God’s will actually.

I am from a family of seven. I personally have 4 children. When I was growing up my older sisters meant the world to me. To this day we are all very close. Everyone is coming to my house on Saturday for a family reunion. My cousins are coming and they were in a family of 10. I will have about 150 people here I think. I have a tent sitting outside to set up tomorrow.

I don’t think it is cold at all to buddy up the kids. Everyone learns some responsiblity and I am sure the mom still pays attention to the younger ones. It is just a system to give each and every baby more adult conversation. It will help develop their vocabulary. I am sure the ones they are buddied with will be very special to them their whole lives.

My oldest sister is 5 years older than me and I idolized her. I cried when she went off to college. I was able to talk to her at times when I did not want to tell my mom something.

I will have to say that being in a larger family has been one of the best blessing my whole life long. I can’t tell you how close we all are and how much we rely on each other. We would do anything for each other.

Yes we had to share rooms, and clothes, and our parents. However, the love multiplied and I think God knows that. More children is more love. I sometimes wish I had more children myself. My youngest is 17 and will be in his last year of hs this year. He is the only one that lives at home now and I miss the years we were raising all of them. I think it is a very special time.

Story

I wonder if they’re Catholic, but they do say they want more children. Wow… good for them!!!

I do not know whether they are Catholic… but certainly another blessing among many that God grants a family… my family knew of a family of 21 kids…

TO PEOPLE THINKING OF POSTING HERE:
Please refrain from judging whether they are right or wrong or if you now must have that many kids to prove you are Catholic… their family size is between them and God… not us to dissect here on the forums or to say a certain size family proves how Catholic one is. A baby is always a blessing from God even when circumstances are not great so let us thank God for another blessing!

Great thing you noted DailyBread. I should’ve thought of saying that myself.

You know, my great grandmother gave birth to 17 kids. 6 died at a young age, tragic accidents or SD, but now there are 10. One of the surviving 11 was shot to death but lived to have 4 children… big families are a true blessing from God!

I’ve watched all or most of the shows on the Discovery Channel about this family. I can say for sure that they are not Catholic.

You know she homeschools all those children?! God Bless her!

They’re not Catholic, they’re part of a non-denom church, and very active in their church. They just like babies! My step-father in law went to high school with Michelle Duggar. He says she was a cheerleader. That makes sense since it takes a pretty enthusiastic person to have 17 babies and still say they want more!

I saw her picture with the new baby…she looked radiant.

The comments after the story on the site where I saw the story were really nasty, mostly about population control, or deriding the Duggars and calling her a baby-factory. Also calling the Duggars selfish…uh, what?

Oh well, the larger culture often gets nasty when they are challenged by people who behave differently. Even if I don’t necessarily agree with all of their parenting techniques, they do seem to be a well-functioning family who takes responsibility for their own choices. Can’t ask for more than that when people choose to have children, right?

And as a completely militant VBAC advocate 😛 , I am thrilled she had one. I was not aware she had had any cesareans before. 👍

Can you believe homeschooling so many children?

Catholic or not, they sure are open to life and big families! You don’t see that very often in non-Catholics (the big families), even some Catholic families now limit the amount of children 😦

The Duggars live down about a block away from me. They are nice people and devoted Christians.

I think it’s great. I do wish the mom would get a new haircut, but other than that :o they seem to be raising respectful, kind, loving children. I wonder how many more there will be. How old is the mom?

Their kids are beautiful. I’m kind of in awe of the mom, most women are saying “never again!” 30 minutes after giving birth.
