This is the BBC’s latest offering. It features an Anglican priest wandering around the world “exploring” different faiths. The Anglican priest is rather stereotypical - middle aged, middle class with what was once obviously a crowning glory of curly hair now sadly diminished. His parish is Surbiton just on the polite fringes of London. Surbiton is the epitome of suburbia. It coined the phrase. My brother lives there. It’s not exactly secular but rather embraces all faiths - “there are many paths to God” - hmmm. A bit like the Anglican church which tries to be all things to all men - and fails miserably as a result.
The series is exactly as I thought it would be. This guy is going around the world apologising for Christianity. At one point he takes part in a wicca ritual in surban Sydney! After 2 hours he feels unable to continue but ends up claiming that these people have “an awareness of the nature world, sadly lacking in Christianity”. Right, put anyone of them in nature and asked them to survive and they would all starve!!!
Sorry, rant over
