I arrived late to the Good Friday service today and I didn’t receive communion because if you arrive late to mass, it is a sin that you need to confess. However does this apply to good Friday service?

You’re not obligated to go to Mass (in this case not technically a Mass) on Good Friday, so no sin at all ❤️

There is no mass on Good Friday since consecration does not happen. Instead consecrated hosts from a previous mass are used. I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be from the mass on Holy Thursday, but I can only assume there’s another option because there just wasn’t enough bread on the altar at consecration to handle my parish’s numbers. You would’ve been fine going to communion.

Also, I’m pretty sure being late to mass is not a sin. If you make a habit out of it and it’s something that you can work on, then that habit could probably be the sin of sloth in this instance, but an instance of being late in of itself isn’t a sin. (unless it is, and then I’ll have learned something new today) There are plenty of people who are late to mass due to being caregivers to kids or the elderly, being dependent on others for transportation, and having just got off work and making it to mass when they can.

My error then. I’ve only been a Catholic for two years and went to the morning prayer service. I wasn’t able to make the afternoon service. I learned something new! Thanks!

Being late to Mass is not a sin. Failing to complete Sunday/Holy Day Obligation without just cause is a sin. If you show up late for Sunday Mass, you can still receive Communion provided that you will attend another Mass that same day (and, of course, are otherwise disposed).
