Arrrgh! What is too Catholic?

The School Superintendant for our diocese is retiring. In interviewing for his replacement a very sad telling of our times emerged. The most qualified candidate, by far, was a man who came from a diocese larger than our own, had turned around the economically deprived school system there, and the diocese had been showing academic improvement.
In wading through his life history, however, it showed his preference for the EF mass and strong catachesis. His studies were numerous and impressive.
The response of the School Board…
This man is TOO Catholic!

What are we teaching our children about our faith? Be secular to succeed?

Anyone else’s children being taught to hide their faith?
 
This is a very sad situation. How can a person responsible for the running of a Catholic school be considered too Catholic? This makes absolutely no sense?!

Is there anything you can do to influence the board to accept this man?

It’s a sad world when a person gets refused a job of this nature on the grounds of being too Catholic. Absolutely crazy!!

i was raised in this environment. as early as 1970 (i was 8) the message started filtering through our parish (and parish school)— one needn’t be so catholic that others can readilly identify them.

a warning-- maintain your catholic identity without becomming reactionary.
 
I am sorry to hear this… Thankfully, my dd’s school is happy to get somebody that others would consider too Catholic.

I don’t get it. Unless his preference for the EF is leaning towards SSPX or even worse, a Sedevacantist group.

That is the only reason I would be worried! But then, I wouldn’t call him “too Catholic”, I would be more sarcastic and say “he si more Catholic than the Pope!”

Prayers as you all search for that “perfect, not too Catholic” Superintendant. Keep asking why the EF makes this man too Catholic though, try to get to the root of it, maybe the others need a simple explanation from someone who is humble and not too pushy!

It sounds as if this is another case of discrimation against someone who has a preference for the older Form of the Roman Mass.

People really need to realise that those who prefer this Mass aren’t all schismatic radicals.
 
I would write a letter to the Bishop, but only if you know for a fact that the school board seriously said he was “too Catholic.” There is no such thing as “too Catholic,” however there is something called lukewarmness, maybe they haven’t read Rev.3:15-16 that says:
15 "I know your works; I know that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either cold or hot.
16 So, because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.

Although someone commented earlier that maybe he isn’t faithful to Pope Benedict, or maybe the school board had another valid concern. 🤷
 
Several parents from the Catholic school my children used to go to were considered to Catholic. I also was on that list. They slowly pushed us all out. The school had about 175 students in it and by the time we were all shoved out it was down to about 120. Of course us that are tooooo Catholic are not very wealthy and money talks.

Perhaps the man lacks perspective? One persons “strong catachesis” is another’s “fundamentalist”. I’m just guessing. But as I don’t know him, I can’t say whether he’s the man for the job.

You see, the school board probably wanted somebody who is “all inclusive” and “tolerant of other views” about faith and moral issues. After all, they may have reasoned, the Church is “universal and pluralistic” and it does not need any “fundamentalist-closed minded” type Catholics. :rolleyes:

So, naturally, since the school board probably is very much “tolerant” and “all inclusive” and “pluralistic” and not “fundamentalist” nor “closed minded” – they *could not *consider this man for the position. Correct? 😉

It always amazes me how all those open minded Catholics tend to be so unwilling to educate themselves on the true teachings of the Catholic faith. Was it Mother Angelica who said, “They are so open minded that their brains fell out.”

Did they push you out because you held orthodox Catholic views? If this is the case, then I would have written to the Bishop. We need more people like you involved in our schools.

We would like to go to the Bishop, but unfortunately our Bishop is up for retirement and anyone that has brought discrimination against orthodox Catholics have only been rewarded for such behavior. In the end we all decided to homeschool and all of us are very pleased with the decision.

It is a sad situation when parents have to take their children out of a Catholic school because the school is not faithful to authentic Church teachings.

At least you can be sure that your children are now receiving a proper education, although I would imagine home-schooling to be difficult at times.
