Apparently an arsonist tried to burn down my local parish church:

Fortunately, there wasn’t much damage. My husband and I drove by and the only difference we saw was that the front doors had received a new coat of paint.

I’m concerned, though, that the arsonist may come back and try to finish what he started.
How horrible.

May your parish come to no harm and may the Lord’s grace touch whoever would be motivated to act in such a deplorable way.

Praying for the safety & well-being of your Parish Church & Parishioners.

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray, and do Thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell satan and all the evil spirits that roam around the world seeking the ruin of souls,
Amen

Sounds like Jesus and St. Michael were watching over this church, since the fire burned itself out with only minor damage. Still an awful thing to happen. Maybe some enhanced security is in order.

O glorious St. Michael, guardian and defender of the Church of Jesus Christ, come to the assistance of this Church (and particularly this parish church which has been attacked), against which the powers of hell are unchained, guard with especial care her august Head, and obtain that for him and for us the hour of triumph may speedily arrive. O glorious Archangel St. Michael, watch over us during life, defend us against the assaults of the demon, assist us especially at the hour of death; obtain for us a favorable judgment, and the happiness of beholding God face to face for endless ages.
Amen.

I used to teach in Moreno Valley and know Berdu pretty well. Praying for the intercession of St. Michael the Archangel. God bless you and your parish.

Still, I can’t help but wonder whether or not the civil authorities would be calling it a hate crime if it was a mosque or a ______. Neither can I help but wonder if they will call it a hate crime if someone comes back to finish what they started as you pointed out, which leads me back to:

St. Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou,
O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan,
and all the evil spirits,
who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen…

May the Angel of the your parish church
protect it from any more vandalism.
Amen.

Peace Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi:

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Okay, I was wrong about which door it was. It was a side door, next to the cry room. The paint is chipping badly (I think from pealing), and there are scorch marks on the walls surrounding the door.

All in all, the damage is not too bad. We’re fortunate the fire burned out quickly, even before the fire department arrived. However, I couldn’t help but smile at today’s first reading about how Moses encountered the bush that was burning yet not consumed by the fire. 🙂

My friend’s parish unfortunately burned down a few years ago, a few hours before Palm Sunday.

It was and still is a painful wound for their parish community, but thankfully, they recently had the ground blessing for their new structure.

I’m glad the fire didn’t spread inside the church of your parish, Kay Cee. Does your parish have security cameras?

No security cameras. We’re lucky the damage wasn’t any worse.
