It seemed to me that some of our Orthodox brethren were suggesting that the filioque was part of the Arian heresy rather than a phrase introduced to oppose the Arian heresy and explain the relationship among the Persons of the Blessed Trinity.
I was not suggesting that. Matthew was not suggesting that. Have any other Orthodox posted on the topic?

Are you bothering to read and understand our posts or are you giving them just a quick skim. I suspect the latter and that confirms my suspicions that you are here trolling.

The burden is on you my friend. You’re the one challenging the article.
Well then, just two quotes which are handy on the computer. Are you sure that you are a Roman Catholic under Pope John Paul II? Why do you avoid a straught answer?

Pope Innocent III (A.D. 1198 - 1216): “With our hearts we believe and with our lips we confess but one Church, not that of the heretics, but the Holy Roman Catholic and Apostolic Church, outside which we believe that no one is saved.” (Denzinger 423)

Pope Pius IX (A.D. 1846 - 1878): “It must be held by faith that outside the Apostolic Roman Church, no one can be saved; that this is the only ark of salvation; that he who shall not have entered therein will perish in the flood.” (Denzinger 1647)

Catholic Tom:
Actually, the term is on a church near my house…Christ the King, Roman Catholic Church.
Yes. The church on the corner of my street has “Holy Family Roman Catholic Church” on its sign and the next suburb has “Saint Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church.”

We have several RCC’s in my area with the name Roman Catholic in them. I have notice that recently two RCC’s have done away with the term “Roman” and have now only the word "Catholic"church.

The second quote comes after the Protestant Reformation so it only proves that the Bishop of Rome has characterized the Catholic Church as the “Roman” Catholic Church. It doesn’t prove that the phrase didn’t originate with the Protestants.

The first quote may prove your point about the phrase not being of Protestant origin. I’d have to know more of the context (i.e. was the Pope referring to the Catholic Church in Italy as the “Roman Catholic Church” or was he referring to the Catholic Church throughout the world as the "Roman Catholic Church) and I’d like to see the original quote in Latin. Translators can be a bit sloppy sometimes.
