In 1830 a Catholic nun had visions of the Virgin Mary, who gave her the design of the miraculous medal. After problems and delays, when she was able to comply with the Virgin Mary’s instruction to have them made, so many miracles occurred because of the medal that people began calling it “the miraculous medal.” This all has been approved by the Catholic Church, and the chapel where the visions occurred are a major Catholic shrine in Paris.
